There were two features at Hollywoodbets Greyville yesterday and class and form prevailed in both so the combined odds of 11/10 for She’s A Keeper and 7/2 for Do It Again were generous.
Anton Marcus gave both winners fine rides.
The Justin Snaith-trained Do It Again was the star of the show and after his eyecatching performance in the Grade 2 World Sports Betting 1900 he shortened from 20/1 to 25/2 for the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
The twice winner of the July has now won his opening champions season start four times in five campaigns.
He was 2.5kg better off with any other horse in the field and made light of his top weight of 62kg.
He looked in magnificent shape and after jumping awkwardly made up the ground quickly to sit on the rail in midfield in the eleven horse field.
The pace was slow and his stablemate Crown Towers skipped for home from the front.
However, the big and athletic Do It Again soon exerted his superiority and bounded past the contenders to win easing up by 1,90 lengths.
He clearly still has it in him as a seven-year-old to be a contender in the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
The Listed WSB Sledgehammer winner Mount Anderson as next best ahead of Gainsford.
The Gareth van Zyl-trained She’s A Keeper was 4.5kg better off with the second best rated horse Opera Glass in the Listed East Coast Cup according to official merit ratings despite carrying joint topweight of 61.5kg.
Opera Glass was in turn 1,5kg better off with the next best rated.
She’s A Keeper had also come on from her last start in the Grade 1 HSH Empress because she had an interrupted for that race.
Marcus managed to get her covered up from a tricky draw of 8 out of 14 but she had more in front of her than behind her and the pace was not fast.
He thus switched her outward while still rounding the turn and hooked her to the outside.
She quickened superbly and hit the front just after the 200m mark before Marcus had even asked her.
He kept her going to win by 1,20 lengths from Princess Anastasia and Silver Maria.
