Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) announced today the popular CTS Farm Sale Race will be staged in three centres in 2023. The stake for each race will be between R225,000 and R250,000.
Grant Knowles, MD of CTS, said spreading the stake between three centres was a decision made on request, and it will enable buyers from upcountry to participate in their respective home centres. “Three races gives everyone as good a chance as they’ll have of a return on their investments and more enjoyment from their purchases.”
He added: “Travel restrictions and costs involved are hampering factors for owners with farm sale graduates outside of Cape Town, and staging a sales race in three centres is fair to all owners including those who live in Johannesburg. The three races will be scheduled for June 2023, close to the 2023 Sale.”
This year’s CTS Farm Yearling Sale will be held on 19 June at De Grendel Estate, and graduates will qualify for the sales races. Entries are open to all stud farms and the closing date is 21 March. A non-refundable entry fee of R1,750 + VAT is payable per entry, and an acceptance fee of R2,000 + VAT is due for each log catalogued, to be deducted from vendor’s fees.
Knowles said: “For every five entries, vendors will receive an additional entry and acceptance at no charge, so, for example, if 12 horses are entered, they’ll only pay for 10.”
A minimum price of R15,000 per yearling will be accepted in the sales ring.
