Corne Spies has another exciting young speedster on his hands in Querari gelding Prophet.

The Ben Botha (Pty) Ltd-owned and bred two-year-old slammed them by 3,80 lengths in yesterday’s Grade 3 Godolphin Barb Stakes over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville under Craig Zackey and still had plenty extra as he was running around at the line.

Prophet had won his debut by 4,25 lengths over 1000m at the Vaal on April 21.

Yesterday his time was more than half-a-second quicker than the Strelitzia time and he was about 1 second slower than the time of the In Full Flight Handicap contested by older horses but was carrying 7.5kg more than the winner of that race.

Spies won the Grade 1 Gold Medallion with Van Halen (Oratorio) in 2018, ridden by Zackey, and the trainer-jockey combination have a lively chance in that race with this horse this year.
