Calvin Habib had a nasty looking fall at Turffontein Inside on Sunday when Carl Vinson unfortunately broke down in the last race but he escaped unscathed.

He said, “I was very lucky, my guardian angel was looking after me.”
He continued, “The fall was broken because the horse went to his knees and I fell like a rolling ball, A stipe said it had looked graceful and I rolled when hitting the ground, so there was a cushion effect.”

Habib did not have any aches or pains yesterday morning.

He was able to ride at Fairview and had a winner.

He will be aboard the Sean Tarry-trained Chimichuri Run in Saturday’s Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint.

“He is doing very well and loves Scottsville,” he said.

Chimichuri Run won the Golden Horse in 2019.

Habib rides the Tarry-trained Sweet Pepper in the Allan Robertson Championship, a race he won aboard the Tarry-trained Under Your Spell last year.

He rides the Tarry-trained Thunderstruck in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion.

He rides Under Your Spell in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint.

Habib is also looking forward to the Hollywoodbets Durban July in which he is due to ride the Tarry-trained Flying Carpet.

He said this big son of Judpot was a “game horse” and he would have a “nice weight.”

He confirmed he had been unlucky in the Grade 1 Premier’s Champions Challenge where he couldn’t get a clear run until it was too late.

Flying Carpet is a big horse who takes a while to get going and Habib said the short Hollywoodbets Greyville straight would be his biggest challenge.

However, he said they would likely give him plenty of short, sharp workouts to build some speed into him before the big race.
