Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo kept his cool in the closing stages of the last race at the Vaal straight course meeting today and after a backhander or two punched out the Paul Peter-trained JP Two Thousand (Elusive Fort) to score his first winner.

 
It was the youngster’s 21st ride.

He had a confidence booster earlier in the day on the gallant Bridget Stidolph-trained seven-year-old mare Samoa (Global One), who only finished fourth in the sixth race but was beaten just three-quarters of a length.
