After a successful weekend at the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Festival, it is back to the mundane for Snaith Racing.
Justin Snaith will be looking for a somewhat lesser feature-race conquest on Monday when Zambaq travels to Fairview in Port Elizabeth to contest Race 7, the Aloe Handicap
(Non-Black Type) for three-year-old fillies over 1300m on the Polytrack.
This Rafeef filly has done well enough so far, winning twice from just seven starts and considering she finished only 10th on debut, it shows she has improved nicely.
Zambaq will be having her first taste of the Polytrack and travelling will be new to her, but she showed in her two wins over 1400m last year she does have some ability.
Both of those wins were on a soft track and wins on that type of going bodes well for an adjustment to the Polytrack.
It is also worth noting that Richard Fourie travels to Port Elizabeth and gets the mount.
Although it is a handicap and there are six rivals, she does look the one most likely to be ahead of her mark and her recent runner-up berth behind Maledimo in a handicap suggested her next win would not be long in coming.
If she does make the necessary adjustment to the surface Zambaq will take all the beating and looks the stand-out bet on the card.
If one is looking for back-up it could be worth considering the “safe” combination of trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Greg Cheyne. They team up with Franca who is unbeaten in two runs on the Polytrack, one at Greyville and another on debut in Port Elizabeth last month.
Both wins were over 1000m, so the concern is how she will handle the extra 300m, although she did score a narrow win over 1200m at the Vaal on turf.
