The Lucky Houdalakis-trained One World colt Walkinginthewoods put himself up as a Dingaans candidate after an impressive win over 1450m at Turffontein Inside today.
He ran in a three-year-old handicap off a 94 merit rating, which he was awarded after winning over 1200m on debut last July by 6,50 lengths, beating Dreadnought.
The latter also won a handicap today. Running off an 86 rating, the Clinton Binda-trained Gimmethegreenlight colt Dreadnought won a MR 86 Handicap over 1800m by an impressive 6,75 lengths, so he could also have classic prospects.
Walkinginthewoods had disappointed in his seasonal reappearance, only managing fourth in a MR 84 Handicap over the same course and distance today, despite starting at 6/10 odds.
However, he was caught in a handy position without cover that day and likely needed the run too.
Today he found cover in a one wide handy position and in the straight he produced long strides late under Keagan de Melo to overtake Gotthetiger late in the day.
He should come on from the run and should enjoy a step up in trip to a mile.
