The Candice and Tammy Dawson-trained  Trust has caught the eye in both the Gr 2 TAB Gauteng Guineas and the Gr 1 HKJC World Pool SA Classic with his late runs and he looks to be tailor made for the Hollywoodbets Durban July.

The luckless Tawny Syndicate-bred Heavenly Blue colt was hampered late in the Guineas before rallying in eyecatching fashion and he looked to have got up in the SA Classic on Saturday as he was the faster finishing one of the embattled duo, Trust and Grand Empire.

However, Grand Empire had his head down at just the right time under Craig Zackey.

Candice Dawson has won a Gr 1 before with Sentbydestiny landing the Gr 1 Premier’s Champion Stakes, but this would have been the first time she and Tammy had won a Gr 1 since officially becoming partners.

Larry Nestadt, Gary Player and the Lindsay Ralphs family are the owners of Trust and more misfortune was to follow for them and the Dawsons on the day, because Trust’s full-brother and stablemate Truth, whom they also own, suffered bad luck in the Gr 3 J J The Jet Plane Stakes over 1000m.

He was not well away and then late in the race a gap closed on him when he was still in with a winning chance.

His official finish of a 1,40 length sixth is not a true reflection on his performance.

Trust will not be aimed at the Gr 1 SA Derby.

Candice Dawson said the merit rating changes will be awaited before making the next step.

Reading between the lines a tilt at the R10 million Hollywoodbets Durban July will be a possibility if he comes out with a low merit rating.

There will be plenty of options for him if he sticks to the classic  and weight for age route.

Truth will be going for the Gr 1 wfa Computaform Sprint on April 4 at over 1000m Turffontein Standside.

He will have a tough task with J J The Jet Plane Stakes winner William Robertson as he was receiving 2kg from him on Saturday, but with a better start and more luck in running he could be a contender in the Computaform.
