Black Eagle stretches out for an impressive victory (Picture: Wayne Marks)
Hollywood Racing landed their 700th career win in style at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth today (Wednesday) as the Vaughan Marshall-trained Rafeef colt Black Eagle stretched away to win a Maiden Plate over 1200m by 5,75 lengths under Hollywood’s first choice rider Sean Veale.
Veale was “gutted” to have lost on this horse last time out when he looked to have it sewn up, but was caught on the line by a flying Blind Date (Futura).
This time he led again but Veale decided to wait for them to come at him before getting going and when they did the horse asserted impressively, stretching away to win as he liked by 5,75 lengths to convert 5/10 odds.
The winning Trainer and Jockey were awarded R10 000 each by Hollywood Racing.
The same pair had collected R10,000 each when Hollywood Racing reached their 100th win of the season on 25 May.
Alistair Cohen was the race-caller on that occasion and was the caller today too and that earned him another R2,500 from Hollywood Racing.
Groom Stanford Mfanta also received a R2 500 cash gift.
Black Eagle was bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm & Mr & Mrs C A Amm.
The Rafeef colt was purchased for R450,000 at the 2024 Cape Racing Sales Breeze-up & Unbroken 2YO Sale.
His Jet Master dam Pan Amm has had seven runners and six winners, including the Gr 3 third-placed Cloud Break (Oratorio) and the Listed third-placed Ground Control (Var).
Black Eagle could become her first stakes winner, such was the impression he created today.
It did take him four starts to get off the mark, but his formlines look strong.
Hollywood Racing had their first winner at Hollywoodbets Greyville on 13 March 2002, when the Paul Lafferty-trained Splendid Night won under the now Australia-based Sean Cormack.
