The Real Prince Converted A Bold Plan

Dean Kannemeyer admitted in the aftermath of his Hollywoodbets Durban July victory on Saturday with the Khaya Stables-homebred Gimmethegreenlight colt The Real Prince there had been a lot of pressure on him in the build up owing to an assurance he had given the connections. He had assured the latter he could get the colt ready without a second preparation run and that was coupled with his belief the colt would stay the 2200m trip.
However, he added, “I like pressure … having pressure is a privilege.”
Kannemeyer and Lady Christine Laidlaw’s Khaya Stables’ racing manager Jehan Malherbe had sat down after The Real Prince’s eyecatching 1,35 length fourth from a wide draw in the Gr 2 IOS Drill Hall Stakes and decided to protect his Hollywoodbets Durban July weight by not running him again before the big race.
His merit rating was raised to 120 after the Drill Hall, which was to give him a nice galloping weight of 56,5kg for the July.
Dean recalled Jehan questioning him at the meeting, “He said to me ‘Can you get him fit enough?’ and that was in consideration of him having had just one run in the Drill Hall over 1400m on Guineas day and then two months later having to run him over 2200m without another race beforehand. I replied, ‘Yes I can do it. I’ve got the facilities at Summerveld, I’ve got the grass tracks, I can do it, I can strip him.’ Many people doubted that, but the job was done.”
Dean watched the race on Saturday from a private suite and said, “Everything went his way (from a good draw of five). In any race you need a lot of luck and the July is a rough race. He got himself in the most perfect position and he was just beautifully switched off, lob, lob, lob, he came into the straight, waited, waited, and moved out, moved out, and he was watching Richard Fourie’s horse ahead. So it all worked out to plan. You need a lot of luck in any race, there are a lot of bad luck stories early on.”
Asked whether he believed The Real Prince would fetch the hot favourite Eight On Eighteen, who had rounded horses at the top of straight and shot clear off the back of a crawling pace set by last year’s winner Oriental Charm, he replied, “Well, I could see him coming strongly. He had to wait, wait and it was lucky he got out and then he followed him. But 300m out I felt he was coming to get him now and then they were locked together and he put his head in front.”
The Real Prince looked the obvious winner going into the final 200m, but that was only for those who underestimate the courage of an equine champion. The three-year-old Eight On Eighteen fought back courageously, but it was The Real Prince who had the momentum and he was also 2,5kg better off than weight for age with Eight On Eighteen.
Kannemeyer is now a four-time Hollywoodbets Durban July winner, while it was a second win for Lady Laidlaw’s Khaya Stables as an owner and first for her as a breeder, and it was a first July win for jockey Craig Zackey.
The Real Prince gave multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight his first Hollywoodbets Durban July victory and denied trainer Justin Snaith a sixth July win.
Dean was asked whether he knew he had won and replied, “I was in the company of a lot of friends and owners and a lot of Durban guys and they said, ‘You’ve got it!'”
However, there are always doubts for those most closely involved and he chose to wait for the slow motion replay before any form of celebration.
“I saw the slow motion replay and then I said, ‘Let’s go down and get the trophy.'”
Beaten 2,65 lengths into third was the Andre Nel-trained WSB 1900 winner Selukwe, while the Nathan Kotzen-trained Royal Victory was strangely completely ignored in the betting and drifted out to 33/1 at one stage, but ran his usual good race to finish a 2,85 length fourth. The Frank Robinson-trained Madison Valley ran a fine 3,15 length fifth from a handy position whilst Tristan Gooden gave the Snaith-trained Native Ruler a fine ride from the widest draw of all to finish a 3,95 length sixth.
The Hollywoodbets Durban July didn’t go as planned last season for the Kannemeyer-Khaya Stables team as their Splashout Cape Derby-winning colt Green With Envy was raised to 127 after winning the Gr 1 Daily News 2000, meaning he had to carry 56kg in the July, and as Craig Zackey revealed in the winner’s enclosure on Saturday, “Green With Envy did not have the best of preps after the Daily News, he got injured and it felt like I was carrying the world on his shoulders. The pressure just got to both of us and he then went wrong after the race, unfortunately.”
Zackey admitted he had harboured that memory for a year.
However, he added with delight, “The pressure is now well off.”
The happiest man on course might well have been Craig’s father Simon, who helped lead the winner in.
The merit rating raise given to Green With Envy after last year’s Daily News 2000 might well have been the pivotal incident behind Kannemeyer and Malherbe’s decision to not run The Real Prince again after the Drill Hall.
Their decision had appeared to be a massive gamble, because The Real Prince had looked to be a leading contender for the prestigious Gr 1 weight for age Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge and, furthermore, there looked to be serious cause for a stamina doubt over 2200m. He is not only a full-brother to Equus Champion Sprinter Gimme A Prince and to Gr 3-winning 1400m filly Gimmie’s Countess, but he had never gone further than 1600m himself. Adding to the stamina doubt was that his mother Real Princess won the Gr 1 SA Fillies Sprint for Kannemeyer and in her six career victories the furthest was over 1400m.
Lady Laidlaw, Kannemeyer and Malherbe have gone full circle since the latter pair purchased the Klawervlei Stud-bred filly Real Princess for Lady Laidlaw for a sales topping price of R2.7 million at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale of 2013 and it paid the ultimate dividend on Saturday.
Dean said, “Jehan and I saw Real Princess at the Sale, she was magnificent and we said, ‘There is just one lot for us this Sale and we must put our heads down and buy her.'”
They duly secured her for that Sales-topping price and Dean added with significance, “She was bred to go at least a mile.”
She was out of Pagan Princess, who was one of Klawervlei’s best boodmares. Pagan Princess was only a one-time winner, but she was by champion stallion Fort Wood and was a half-sister to the Al Mufti superstar Victory Moon.
Fort Wood is of course a stamina influence and Victory Moon won the Gr 2 UAE Derby, was third in the Dubai World Cup and was very unlucky in one of England’s biggest race, the Coral Eclipe. Furthermore, Victory Moon was a half-brother to Equus Champion Older Male Stayer, Kelly.
Dean said that deep down he was confident The Real Prince would stay and not only due to the above-mentioned stamina further down in his pedigree. He pointed at how easily he had won his only start over a mile, a five length victory in the Listed City Of Cape Town Jet Master Stakes at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth in February.
He added, “The Real Prince also switches off completely and has a helluva turn of foot and he is also a completely different type to Gimme A Prince, who is a bull of a horse.”
Kannemeyer’s reading of The Real Prince’s stamina capacity proved spot on.
Jehan Malherbe thanked Varsfontein Stud, who board Lady Laidlaw’s mare and then he added, “It was a great training feat and always when the jockey wins you say great ride.”
Lady Laidlaw was unable to be on course, but was very excited by the victory and was on the phone to Jehan before he had reached the winner’s enclosure.
The trio of Kannemeyer, Malherbe and Lady Laidlaw have had a huge amount of Gr 1 success, which includes races like the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and Cape Guineas, Cape Derbys and too many others to mention. Lady Laidlaw apparently only buys or sends Kannemeyer about three horses per year, so Dean has done an incedible job for her.
The result did seem almost written in the stars as the day progressed. Dean’s first July win was in 2003 with Dynasty, then with Eyeofthetiger in 2006 and then for Lady Laidlaw with Power KIng in 2015. With the names Dynasty and Power King preceding Satuday’s race, The Real Prince had a chance for those who look for omens and this was enchanced on the day when the Gareth van Zyl-trained King Pelles won the Gr 3 Durban Gold Vase and the Candice Dawson-trained Chronicle King won the Gr 2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe.
It was indeed a day for royalty and a weight-carrying plan came together and denied the likely Equus Horse Of The Year, Eight On Eighteen, a unique feat of winning both the Met and July as a three-year-old.
Hollywoodbets Durban July Points To Ponder

The Hollywoodbets Durban July has come and gone, but its effect on the racing fan usually lingers and perhaps attracts a few more to take an interest in a sport rooted in history.
The dissection of the big race will last for weeks, but here are a few points to note:
South Africa’s chief handicapper Lennon Maharaj is often the best person to follow in the big race and he got it right again. Eight Of Eighteen was rated 129 and owing to there not being an older horse rated any higher than 127 he ended up 2kg well in when his weight was dropped to 57kg, the minimum weight for a three-year-old. So were there any horses who could then beat him? Yes there was only one horse, i.e the horse whose route into the big race had specifically involved avoiding the handicapper and that was The Real Prince.
In his previous start he had finished a 1,35 length fourth to Gladatorian in the Gr 2 IOS Drill Hall Stakes and had he run in, instead of avoiding, the Gr 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge and finished the same distance behind Gladatorian he would have had to carry 2kg more in the July, and that was not even taking into account that he had to come from a wide draw in the Drill Hall.
The big question of course was whether The Real Prince would stay, considering the close up speed in his pedigree extending from his full brother, Equus Champion Sprinter Gimme A Prince, through his Gr 1 SA Fillies Sprint-winning dam Real Princess, and stamina only being found under his third dam. His second dam Pagan Princess was a sibling to middle distance-to-staying superstar Victory Moon as well as to champion stayer Kelly. But milers have won the July before, with 1991 winner Flaming Rock being the best example and the key appears to be the ability to relax and then fly home, while a slow pace also helps. Intrestingly, Flaming Rock and The Real Prince ran identical times, a relatively slow 134,2 seconds.
Trainer Dean Kannemeyer said The Real Prince had pulled up extremely well from Saurday, but although he would be entered in the Gr 1 Champions Cup, to be run in three weeks time on Gold Cup day over 1800m, he was more than likely done for the season.
Justin Snaith’s disappointment at not adding a sixth Hollywoodbets Durban July to his CV was there for all to see in a video taken of him during the race. It must be gut wrenching to have the best horse in the race and still be denied despite the horse’s courage in the final stages. It is annoying in an equal amount for the purist to see comments on social media saying Eight On Eighteen is overrated. The truth is the Lancaster Bomber colt was easily the best performed horse in the race. He was 2,5kg worse off with weight for age than the winner, so officially performed 2.69 lengths better than him, and the only pair he was better off than weight for age with were topweights Gladatorian and Oriental Charm, with whom he was 1kg better off with weight for age than. He officially performed 3,82 lengths better than Gladatorian and 7,42 lengths better than Oriental Charm. Eight On Eighteen ran on equal weight for age terms with Royal Victory and was worse off than weight for age with the rest of the field, so performance-wise he thrashed the field.
Royal Victory was the third best performed horse in the race, finishing fourth, 2,85 lengths behind Eight On Eighteen on weight for age terms. The Nathan Kotzen-trained five-year-old Pathfork gelding was strangely ignored by pundits and punters, drifting out to 33/1 at one stage, despite his consistency on the big stage. He ran on strongly from off the pace and also proved his Hollywoodbets Durban July Gallop antics had had nothing to do with the blinkers, which he wore for the first time over a 2000m trip or beyond.
Muzi Yeni was aboard Royal Victory and must be wondering whether an elusive win in the big race will ever happen as he has now had one second, three thirds, two fourths and two fifths.
A question that has surfaced is whether Richard Fourie moved too early on Eight On Eighteen? Last year’s race was considered a crawl and was actually 0,56 seconds quicker than this year’s, so Fourie was probably justified in moving early, especially considering the winner is a full brother to the champion sprinter Gimme A Prince and in a crawl-sprint race would have had a good chance of outsprinting the opposition. In any case one of the moments of the day was the sportmanship shown by Fourie in congratulating his good friend and fierce rival Craig Zackey after the finish.
Horses that travelled from Johannesburg had won the last two Hollywoodbets Durban Julys, the Brett Crawford-trained pair Winchester Mansion and Oriental Charm respectively, but in this year’s renewal, amazingly enough, the only eight horses that traveled for the race filled the last eight places.
Apparently most of the horses that traveled from Jo’Burg were loaded in cold and rainy conditions, while Atticus Finch, who arrived at Summerveld six days before the event, suffered epistaxis in the race and the East Cape horse My Best Shot was perhaps not good enough. Interestingly, Highveld trainer Candice Dawson, who won the Gr 2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe with Chronicle King, traveled her runners down on Thursday together with the Mike and Adam Azzie horses and that was the day before the rain and freeze.
Dean Kannemeyer has had four July winners and three of them have names related to royalty, Dynasty, Power King and The Real Prince, so when King Pelles and Chroncle King won the Durban Gold Vase and Omoda Golden Horseshoe respectively, omen watchers might have backed The Real Prince!
Double Grand Slam proved herself the best filly in the land by winning the Gr 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes under Andrew Fortune, who provided the crowd with extra entertainment. It was a second win on the day for the legendary Gary Player, who also part-owns King Pelles, and Double Grand Slam increased the tally over her fierce rival Rascova to 8-5.
There will be many other points of debate in the aftermath of the country’s greatest race, which has been taken to a new level in the first year of the existence of Race Coast, which included many quality renovations to the course facilities and the use of the new state of the art LED floodlights for the night time races and for a spectacular light show.
Double Grand Slam Lands A Second Gr 1
In the big day’s chief supporting feature, the Gr 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes over 1600m, the Justin Snaith-trained Varfontein Stud-bred Vercingetorix filly Double Grand Slam proved herself the best filly in the country under a fine ride by Andrew Fortune.
Double Grand Slam was slightly slowly away from draw nine out of 13, but it panned out perfectly for her when Fortune drove her forward as she was able to find the rail in midfield.
Fatal Flaw was even slower away and then had to round virtually the whole field and only got into her favurite front-running role at about the 700m mark.
Rascova was the early leader and only got a tow from Fatal Flaw when more than half the race was run.
Richard Fourie is usually Double Grand Slam’s rider, but is contracted to Ridgemont, so had to ride Mon Petit Cherie.
Mon Petit Cherie sat on the rail behind Double Grand Slam and only had three horses behind her.
Scarlet Macaw went round Rascova before entering the straight and hit the front.
Fatal Flaw began fading and Rascova challenged for the lead together with Spumante Dolce, but Rascova was hanging to the left.
Meanwhile, Double Grand Slam got a dream run down the inside to middle part of the track.
This was as opposed to Mon Petit Cherie, who had to wait for a gap and then had to be angled to the outside.
Double Grand Slam hit the front at the 200m mark.
Mon Petit Cherie then ran at her strongly, but it was too late and she was beaten 0,80 lengths. Mon Petit Cherie is much improved and was perhaps a touch unlucky not to add this to her WSB Fillies Guineas victory, considering the path she had to take in the straight.
Nevertheless, Double Grand Slam was a thoroughly deserving winner, especially considering he bad luck she suffered in this same race last year, not to mention her bad luck in the recent Gr 1 SA Fillies Sprint.
Rascova was a 2,20 length third and Just Be lekker and Spumante Dolce were beaten three lengths and four lengths in respective fourth and fifth places.
Fortune saluted the crowd before crossing the line, but the stipendiary stewards did not react to it.
However, they did react to his showboating in the winner’s enclosure, where he prompted further crowd applause by standing up in the saddle and waving his crop like an orchestra conductor.
He was fined R2000 for removing his skull cap on two occasions during that sideshow.
Fortune’s life story is well documented and he said in the winning interview, “People want to tell me that there’s no God? If I told you that just six months ago, when I didn’t have a license, that I would have been riding a Group 1 for Justin on July day …. they would have referred me to a mental institution. So, the people who are not believers … look at my life and you’ll become a believer. I had little to do with this win. I just turned up. You see, the human race can’t close doors that God has opened. It’s amazing … a Group 1 … at 58 (age). It wasn’t that easy, as I had 3 plans in my head … I was going to sit 4th … and then I had plan B as she got left half a length. Now I was on plan C already! But just before I turned for home, I said to her, ‘Girl, are you awake? She pushed her chest out and said, ‘You just say when I must go’. I hit the front too early. I was so excited! Thanks to Justin, Mr MacLean, Mr Player, Drakenstein, for allowing me to ride her.”
Justin Snaith said, “I was too nervous to watch as you can find so much trouble, and this filly finds it all the time. This race is always tough and very competitive. Every breeder wants to win it, so you know what you’re up against. Her July Gallop was just sensational and as I previously said, they turned the cameras off when she galloped, but if they had left them on, she would have been 5-10! I can assure you that anything on that day, she would have beaten in a 1400 gallop. I’m just very proud. To Dave McLean, Drakenstein, Gary Player … it’s just very special. She was in such a bad mood after not getting a run in the SA Fillies Sprint and to prove it today, is incredible. Congratulations to Varsfontein on breeding a beautiful animal. She’s bred in the purple and is going to be a serious filly for Drakenstein one day. Very proud to be her trainer.”
Rebecca Player spoke on behalf of part-owner Gary PLayer and said, “We’re very happy Double Grand Slam won and can’t wait for more to come.”
Kevin Sommerville, racing manager of part-owners Drakesnstein Stud, said, “A massive congratulations to Justin, Jono and the whole team. Fantastic ride by Andrew. To the owners … your beautiful filly … it’s really special and in a race like this … it’s spectacular. I’m very happy.”
Jaco Erasmus of breeders Varsfontein Stud said, “It’s been a phenomenal day. We were represented by 6 horses in the July, but unfortunately only one could win. What an honour to have all those horses in the race. We’ve had two Group 1 winners and a Group 2 winner on the day …. I’ve got no voice left. The champagne is going to flow tonight. (Lady Christine Laidlaw’s Khaya Stables bred the July winner, but her mares board at Varsfontein Stud)”
Dave MacLean is the other part-owner of Double Grand Slam alongside Drakenstein Stud and Gary Player.
A R1 million National Yearling Sale purchase, Double Grand Slam is by Vercingetorix (Silvano) out of the two-time winning Captain Al mare Princess Peach.
Double Grand Slam has now on eight races, including two Gr 1s, and has had seven places from 18 starts for stakes of R2 973 713.
Double Grand Slam has faced her arch rival Rascova 13 times and the tally is now 8-5 in her favour.
Chronicle King Gives Vercingetorix A New SA Record?
The Candice Dawson-trained Narrow Creek Stud-bred 33/1 shot Chronicle King was ridden to victory in the Gr 2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe over 1400m by Muzi Yeni and was one of three Graded winners on the day for champion sire elect Vercingetorix.
He became the 22nd stakes winner for Vercingetorix this season and that must surely be a South African record.
Vercngetorix’s 22 stakes winners have won a phenomenal 31 stakes races between them this season.
Vercingetorix has now had 60 stakes winners in his career.
Jumping from a good draw of three Chronicle King found a handy position in about fifth position on the rail and ran on strongly in the straight to beat the favourite Malmesbury Missile by 1,10 lengths.
Tin Pan Alley, who had beaten Chronicle King over this distance on the Highveld by 7.05 lenths when they met on June 8, was beaten 1,60 lengths into third and was followed home by Aristocratic and Soldier Boy.
It was rough down the straight and the Stipes have opened an Inquiry into the incident in which the winner was bumped on at least three occasions and carried inwards by Tin Pan Alley, with severe interference also caused to Elegantrix as well as to Count Of Rouen and Charming Cheetah.
Chronicle King is ownd by John Finlayson.
He is out of the three-time winning Western Winter mare Written and has won two of just four starts and took his stakes earnings to R535 876.
He is the second son of Vercingetorix (Silvano) to win the Golden Horseshoe, with the latter’s champion son Cousin Casey, currently on his way to stud, victorious in the 2022 renewal.

Ferrie/Veale And Querari Both Complete Post Merchants Doubles
I Am Giant powers home under Sean Veale. (Candiese Lenferna Photography).
Stuart Ferrie and Sean Veale won the Post Merchants with Vercingetorix gelding Gladatorian in 2023 and repeated the feat on Saturday with the AC Dickerson-bred Hollywood Racing-owned Querari five-year-old gelding I Am Giant, although it has been downgraded to a Gr 3 this year.
Hollywood bought this good looking sprinter from Laurence Wernars and Harry Willson at the beginning of last year, but Saturday was just the second run he had had for Ferrie’s Summerveld yard and his second run after a five month layoff, so it was a fine training feat by Ferrie.
Stuart said in the build up I Am Giant had needed his previous start and he expected him to be competitive.
I Am Giant sat in midfield with cover from draw 6 of 13 and was full of running in the straight.
The gaps opened and he powered through to win by 0,75 lengths under Sean Veale with the only filly in the race, Mai Sensation, runner up meaning Lucinda Woodruff was narrowly denied repeating her win of last year in this race with Cafe Culture.
O’Tenikwa, Buffalo Storm Cody and Outlaw King were next best respectively.
I Am Giant, who is out of the Var mare Vars Honour, is the second son of Querari to win the Post Merchants. His paternal half-brother Kangaroo Jack won the same race back in the 2016 renewal.
Third in the 2024 Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint, I Am Giant was originally purchased for R350 000 off the BSA August 2yo Sale.
Now a winner of 5 races with 8 places from 18 starts, I Am Giant took his stakes earnings to R852 313.
He provided Querari with a 44th stakes winner.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2yo’s in 2018-2019, Querari is currently fifth on the General Sires premiership with his flagbearers this season headed by the very smart Wilgerbosdrift Gr1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Cosmic Speed.
I Am Giant provided Hollywood Racing with a 117th win this season.

Alan Greeff's First July Day Win Is A Gr 2
Varsfontein Stud’s homebred stallion Master Of My Fate has enjoyed an outstanding season in 2024-2025 and his great form continued on Saturday.
His two-year-old daughter Anotherdanceforme made it five wins from five starts when she romped home to a clear-cut win the G2 SplashOut Golden Slipper (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Alan Greeff, Anotherdanceforme stormed home, under Richard Fourie to land the Golden Slipper by nearly a length and a half.
The winning margin would surely have been greater, had the filly not hung badly in the closing stages of the R500 000 contest.
After what felt like a length delay, the objection hooter sounded as trainer Tienie Prinsloo objected on behalf of the runner-up on the grounds of late stage interference.
The Stipes reported that the winner showed a tendency to hang in shortly after entering the straight. At the 150m, approaching the shadow cast by the grandstand, Anotherdanceforme commenced to hang in badly and consequently Quickstepgal, Green Diamond, Captains Envy and Educator were carried inwards and Princess Keira was also steadied and switched outwards to continue her run.
The Objection Board, after carefully considering the evidence that was tendered during the objection proceedings, established that Anotherdanceforme had trailed Quickstepgal until the 300m, had raced clear, despite hanging in badly, and that the margin between these two horses was 1,40 lengths.
It was the view of the Board that the Prinsloo objection had no prospects of success and consequently it was over-ruled and the deposit was forfeited.
Bred by Varsfontein, Anotherdanceforme races for Peter Moor.
The filly, who had previously claimed both the Listed World Sports Betting Dahlia Plate and Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery.
Anotherdanceforme, a full-sister to Listed Sweet Chestnut Stakes winner Princess Izzy, was a R650 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
She is out of the What A Winter made Destiny Dancer.
Anotherdanceforme is one of a growing number of high-class two-year-olds representing Master Of My Fate this season, with others including stablemate, and G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery winner, Golden Palm.
Master Of My Fate is also the sire of four-year-old That’s My Baby, who won the second race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

(Brandon Bailey: 5 – 8 – 6 – 7)

RACE 6
1 GOLDEN ANGEL ran a fair race behind Strawberry Thief on the 21st of May, she ran fifth and was beaten just over three lengths by the winner, she has dropped even further in the ratings, she has dropped in trip, and she gets a good draw, this looks to be a golden opportunity for this filly to get back into the winners box. 11 LA DIVINA was given a great ride by jockey Pierre Corne Orffer on the 13th of May, she was gutsy and managed to fight them off to win a super race, she was given two points for that victory, if she can beat the draw without doing work early, she will have a good winning chance again. 9 SUPREME FATE finished like a train last time behind Swiatek, she really caught the eye late when finishing fourth, she is still improving with racing, with some luck in running, she will be right there in the finish. 10 ONI SAN has run some decent races of late, her last run on the 1st of June was very good behind Swiatek, she could certainly finish in the money, its a tricky race, you will need to go wide. (Brandon Bailey: 1 – 11 – 9 – 10)
RACE 7
4 LOVERS LANE ran a cracker behind Firingonallengines last time, Trainer Paul Reeves and his team have done a wonderful job with this gelding, he looks to be in such a good space at the moment, this seems to be a nice race for him, if he can bring that last run to the track again on Tuesday, he will be hard to beat with jockey Gavin Lerena. 10 GRAVITY has run two great races in succession, he can be slow into stride early, and then he runs on powerfully late, include him into all bets, he certainly has a good each way chance in this race. 7 CHAMPAGNE MAC finished five lengths behind his stable companion on the 21st of May, he tries hard, at this level, he always has a money chance. 5 TAMBOURINE MAN has been rested for 83 days, ignore his last run completely, Craig Zackey knows this individual well, if he doesn’t need the run badly from a small break, he could easily win a race like this. (Brandon Bailey: 4 – 10 – 7 – 5)
RACE 8
6 PEACE OF MIND went down narrowly last time behind Pink Pigeon, she is an absolute speed ball, unfortunately she was given two points for running second last time, but she is very fast and she really enjoys the 1000m trip, she will be hard to beat in the lucky last. 3 THE CHARLESTON ran a much better race on the 12th of June, she ran third in the same race as Peace Of Mind behind Pink Pigeon, at the weights with the apprentice taking off 1.5kgs, she must have a good winning chance, include her into all bets. 7 INSIDE VOICE won her maiden well on the 25th of May, she showed good speed and still managed to kick strongly off that, even though she will need to improve even further to win again, she definitely has ability and must be respected. 9 LHASA bounced back to form in a big way last time, she ran a lovely second behind Champagne Kisses, if she can bring that run to the track on Tuesday, she can certainly finish in the money. (Brandon Bailey: 6 – 3 – 7 – 9)
Today's Question

The picture gives a clue to the answer
FIELDS, Tuesday, 8 July
Hollywoodbets Kenilworth
Today’s Question Answer
Peter Kannemeyer won the July in 1979 with Over The Air and was unlucky in 1994 when Pas De Quoi was badly hampered twice in the straight, leading to him succesfully objecting against the winner Surfing Home, but he had only finished fifth so was just promoted to fourth place.
Peter’s son Dean has won it in 2003 with Dynasty, 2006 with Eyeofthetiger, 2015 with Power King and 2025 with The Real Prince.
