Marco van Rensburg had been having a good season with 47 wins achieved at a strike rate of 11.19% and that included a Gr 2 and a Gr 3 win. (Pauline Herman Photography)
Marco van Rensburg took a fall today on the Fairview polytrack in the 6th race over 1200m on Tuesday when his mount Purple Operator unfortunately broke down.
Marco was disagnosed with a broken arm.
Five-time winner Purple Operator was a popular horse wherever he went and is a sad loss to Hollywood Racing and to the Cliffie Miller yard.
The eight race meeting was otherwise full of intrigue.
Richard Fourie rode a four-timer for Alan Greeff.
One of Fourie’s chief rivals for the national Jockeys’ title, Craig Zackey, rode a double for Gavin Smith, who had a treble on the day.
Zackey has moved into the lead in the championship again with 108 wins, which he has achieved at a strike rate of 17.97%.
Gavin Lerena is in second place on 106 at 26.63%.
Fourie goes to 103 wins at 24.52%.
Greeff is on 65 wins at 15.15%.
Perennial rival Smith is on 57 wins at 12.75%.
