Piere Strydom took a nasty fall from Mary Read shortly after the start of the fifth race at the Vaal on Tuesday  and he will be out for a couple of weeks, meaning he will miss the ride on See It Again and others in the L’Ormarins King’s Plate meeting on Saturday.
Earlier, Calvin Habib took a bad fall off Paisley Park after the line in the third race and he was later reported to have fractured a collar bone.
He will undergo surgery on Thursday, so is also out of the L’Ormarins King’s Plate.
He was due to ride Betway Summer Cup winner Atticus Finch.
Three strides or so into the fifth race Mary Read suddenly stumbled on to her knees and Strydom was flung over her head.
Fortunately, a CT scan later was clear.
However, he had a bad cut on his arm, that required stitches, and bruising, so “will be off for a couple of weeks.”
The Tuesday meeting was abandoned after the fifth race.
Piere said, “The grass was too long and thick and that went for Saturday as well.”
He said about having to miss out on the See It Again ride, “Very sad, as the Cape races are more in his favour.”
