Beach Bomb (nearest) wins last season’s Gr 1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas (Picture: Wayne Marks).
Drakenstein Stud’s late sire Lancaster Bomber is proving to be a big loss and this will be felt this weekend in the Gr 1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas, where his Justin Snaith-trained daughter Beware The Bomb will attempt to repeat the feat of his first crop daughter, the Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Beach Bomb.
Lancaster Bomber did the Cape Racing Guineas double last year as his Snaith-trained son Snow Pilot won the Gr 1 Hollywoobets Cape Guineas.
The son of War Front only had two crops, so it will be an incredible feat if he manages to have a 100% Guineas record in cape Town with them.
Beware The Bomber has a realistic chance and is the fourth favourite at 10/1.
She was one of the most eyecatching runners in the Gr 3 Western Cape Fillies Championship last time out over 1400m as she has a big stride and was rallying late, failing by a short-head.
In the Cape Guineas Lancaster Bomber has two entries, the highly regarded Snaith-trained Eight On Eighteen and the Bass-Robinson-trained Air Raid (Legend Of Arthur is still among the entries but will not be going).
It will be an interesting next two weekend and Drakenstein Stud will be hoping for more success with their late Lancaster Bomber.
Meanwhile, his son Snow Pilot has blossomed this season and looks to have an exciting season ahead of him.
He is natural successor to Lancaster Bomber in the breeding shed and if he continues the way he has been going this season he could turn out to be a good stallion prospect.
