One Stripe Will Be Hard To Beat

Gr 2 Cape Punters Cup Preview for Interbet

At the risk of tempting fate, next week’s G1 Summer Cup at Turffontein seems much more difficult to solve than Saturday’s Punters Cup at Kenilworth, where Vaughan Marshall’s budding star, One Stripe stands out.

The son of One World has only lost twice in his five -start career. Once on debut when green and failing to land a market plunge from 10’s into 4/1. And then on his seasonal bow 42 days ago when beaten by Snow Pilot. But a close examination of that most recent start suggests that One Stripe is potentially an outstanding three-year-old with potent Cape Guineas credentials.

His conqueror, in fact, won the Cape Guineas in 2023 and now races off an OMR of 120. One Stripe conceded his year older foe a kilogram and succumbed by only a length. That is a remarkable performance for a still developing 3YO, borne out by an excellent speed figure of 100++ which could even go as high as 109.

It takes a fertile imagination to see anything getting to One Stripe on Saturday, based on those stellar numbers. Gavin Lerena should be able to work out a smooth, stalk and pounce trip on the bay One World colt, given that stable mate All out for Six, Captain West and On My Honour have gone forward willingly in their races.

All out for Six (s/s 99) should give a good sight racing on the lead; On My Honour ran a comparable fig of 99 on the Fairview Poly a month ago and Captain West (s/s 97) is drawn in pole position to launch his bid.

Justin Snaith’s Eight On Eighteen won the Langerman in mid- Winter with a surge from dead last to dismiss All out for Six by three quarters of a length. He should have matured physically in the past five months since then and can build on a speed figure of 100. That still falls short of what One Stripe is capable of, however.

Garrix comes in off a second start Maiden victory when backed like there was no tomorrow for settling. The speed fig he attained puts him in the mid 90’s – so Piet Steyn’s entry is clearly talented and with loads of scope, but he too has several lengths to make up on the 1/3 odds on favourite.

Grizzled punters know it is very difficult to make profits long- term backing horses deep in the red – a few losers quickly destroy any accumulated profits. Instead, some prefer hooking the “good thing”” up with other better priced horses across the cards in Doubles or longer Multiples.

Another reasonable ploy is to make them bankers in the Picks. There is no point in making the “easy” legs in the sequence harder than necessary by covering against the hot pot getting rolled. That’s if you, indeed believe he is a genuine stand-out who just about must fall down to lose.

At the early prices 14/1, On My Honour could be the value underneath. He might not transfer his PE Poly form to the Kenilworth lawn but, if he does, then a speculative, cold Exacta of One Stripe over outsider, On My Honour could prove worthwhile.

Emperor's Palace Racing Open Golf Tournament - Spaces Available

The Emperor’s Palace Racing Open has it’s inauguration on the Sunday and Monday after the Betway Summer Cup, December 1 and December 2, and is open to all members of the racing fraternity.

There are still places open for the inaugural event which will take place at the Jack Nicklaus designed Serengeti golf course on the Serengeti Golf And Wildlife Estate in Kempton Park close to the O.R Tambo international airport.

A golfing package with no accomodation is R2000 and covers all of the golf costs for both days, including golf carts, and this package includes dinner after play on both days.

The competition will be individual stableford.

There will be an 11H00 shotgun start on both days.

The event could be viewed as a second “racing major” to accompany the famous Racing Masters, which takes place just after the Gold Cup meeting every year at the Wild Coast and where the winning golfer is awarded the coveted Green Jacket.

The Racing Open will honour its winning golfer with a Blue Jacket.

Lead The Charge Could Get The Momentum Going

Turffontein Standside stages an eight race meeting on Saturday that could help bolster the funds for the big Betway Summer Cup meeting the following Saturday.

The highest rated races at the meeting are a Graduation Plate over 1000m and a MR 95 Handicfap over 1160m.

In the Graduation Plate Lead The Charge is a talented sprinter who can progress further over a suitable course and distance from a favourable high draw of five out of six. He is officially 1,5kg under sufferance with the best weighted pair, who are French Bolt and Master Casper. Karate Kid has the 1,5kg claim of Rachel Venniker and is also drawn six out of six so that and his progressive profile will help alleviate the fact that he is officially 6kg under sufferance with the best weighted pair. Rondesbosch is an up and coming sort who can rise above his current merit rating, which officially puts him 3,5kg under sufferance, but he does have the tricky number one draw. Fostinovo should be cherry ripe but does have a tricky low draw and is 9kg under sufferance, although he does have a 2,5kg claimer up. French Bolt and Master Casper are potentially top class, but both are making their seasonal reappearances.

In the MR 95 Handicap over 1160m Richard The First is talented and is drawn on the right side over a suitable trip. He will be hard to beat. Paisley Park is usually thereabouts and can be again from a nice high draw. Slinky Mapimpi ran a blinder last time to beat a classy sort in Fatal Flaw and could follow up over a further drop in trip from a nice high draw. Midnight Gem is an honest sort who is drawn on the right side over a suitable course and distance. Edward Rye is in good form but has a tricky low draw.

In the second leg of the Pick 6, a MR 86 handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m, the progressive Across The Pond has a fair draw over a suitable trip and can make it a third win in her last four starts. Doitwithdiamonds in fine form and could make an honest attempt to run on from behind after being dropped out from a tricky draw, although she has a three point raise to contend with for her last win. Elembee should go close if repeating her August run over this trip at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Hillary Step is is fair form and is distance suited and well drawn. Spirited Girl is in fine form and would be the one to beat of it was over 1400m, so the question is whether she will see it out. She has a good draw which will help.

In the fifth race over 2000m, a Middle Stakes event, the long-striding Indian Ocean goes well for Piere Strydom and has a plum draw over a suitable trip. Tamarisk Tree is in hard knocking form and from pole position should go close again. Mount Darwin has talent and is capable of running on so could be dropped out from a wide draw. Royal Edition is in good form and is distance suited and well drawn. Sugar Blast won well last time but does have a four point raise to overcome.

In the sixth race over 1400m On Target won well second time out and off a reasonable 83 merit rating with Lerena up can go close over the same trip, although the tricky draw is a concern. Fast Duty is course and distance suited and only three points higher for his win last time. Libeccio is effective over this trip and has a plum draw. Gimme The Flame should handle the step up in trip and has a fair draw. Sail The Sky won well last time and is only three points higher.

In the last race over 1160m, Fastnet Filly is up against the boys but made a fine Highveld debut and off a 74 merit rating could follow up. Peace Treaty is drawn on the right side and is capable of better than last time. Passage Of Power can be involved if bouncing back to form under Rachel Venniker who gets a handy 1,5kg claim. Prince Of Kildare has the ability to go close but does have a low draw. Secret Chord is capable of better than his last two.

In the first leg of the Bipot over 1600m the hardknocking pair Tuscan Star and Lacewing could fight it out.

In the first leg of the PA over 1600m Pretty Analia, Fireburst and Tried And true could get punters through.

RACE 1

The day starts with a full field of first timers, watch the market closely, get the Trainer comments and watch these two-year old’s move down to the start first before striking a bet. One horse that does jump off the page in the opener is 4 BLACK CHEETAH, he is the half-brother to Great Plains who is also trained by Justin Snaith and has won 4 of his 7 starts to date, champion jockey Richard Fourie has been booked to ride this good-looking son of Querari on debut. RACE 2

7 ENGLEFIELD GREEN ran a lovely race last time behind Miraculous when finishing second, her form to date is excellent, she now steps up in trip to 1400m which will give her a massive winning chance. 3 RUSSIAN ROYAL comes back to the races from a 92-day break, her debut run was super behind Jou Lekker Ding when finishing third, there is no doubt she is looking for this trip, from a good draw, she will be a massive danger to them all. 5 NEMOROSA improved dramatically from run one to run two, she is a good-looking filly that will get better and stronger with more racing, watch her closely in this tricky race. 6 LOUI’S STAR stayed on strongly behind Pink Pigeon in her last start, she will love the step up in trip, include her into all bets. RACE 3

15 TUSCAN ROMANCE will love the fact that she is back in trip and sprinting again, she has had no luck with draws over 1400m in her last two starts, now that she races up the straight at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth again, she will take lots of beating. 7 HOPE CHEST is a nice big striding filly that will undoubtedly prefer further in time, she was very green in her last start when finishing third behind Miraculous, this looks to be a good race for her to be competitive. 5 FROM A DISTANCE stayed on well from a wide draw in her most recent start, her form is consistent, and the blinkers have been fitted, include her into all bet types. 11 PAPILLON BLU ran a much better race last time, on her best form, she could sneak into the Quartets at a decent price. RACE 4

3 LION RAMPART will be very hard to beat, he needed his last run badly when showing plenty speed early and then getting tired late, now that he races back over the 1200m trip, he should take all the beating. 6 KAIBOY won a super race last time beating Mon Petit Cherie who went on to win the Grade 2 Western Cape Fillies Championship, the yard think highly of this individual, he is clearly still improving and must be factored into all bets. 7 ROMAN AGENT improved beautifully after a rest and gelding, his comeback run behind Luhamba Phambili was very good when finishing strongly for second, he has tons of ability and must be respected. 4 MISS WORLD ran a decent race last time with the blinkers fitted, she must have a Quartet chance. (Brandon Bailey: 3 – 6 – 7 – 4)

RACE 5

3 MEU CAPITANO was desperately unlucky in his last start behind Dance Variety, he got bumped out the gates and then took off to run third, he is progressive and will give a good account of himself. 6 QUESTIONING won the Grade 3 Matchem Stakes with absolute ease when beating Montien, he is a high-class individual that is very versatile, he will be right there in the finish. 12 KING REGENT is in the form of his life at the moment, he won all three legs of the Eastern Cape Poly challenge extremely well, with some luck in running, he will be hitting the line hard, watch him late. 8 OUTLAW KING ran a cracker in his most recent start behind Rascova, he is packed with ability, if he can build on his recent start, he should have a good money chance in this competitive race. RACE 6

4 RED PALACE quickened up in devastating fashion to beat Double Grand Slam last time at Hollywoodbets Durbanville, she is a star filly in the making that will improve even further now that she is racing back over 1600m, watch her for the Cape Summer Season, she will be very hard to beat here. 3 DOUBLE GRAND SLAM needed her last run badly, she moved up really well past the 300m mark and then got tired late, she is classy and will be right there in the finish. 2 RASCOVA fought hard to the line to win well back on the 26th of October, she likes to race up on speed, she should finish amongst the places on her best form. 9 SAARTJIE has been rested for 118 days, from a tricky draw, she will be doing good work late. (Brandon Bailey: 4 – 3 – 2 – 9)

RACE 7

5 ONE STRIPE is a star colt in the making, his last run in the Progress Plate behind Snow Pilot was outstanding, the form of that race has worked out well, his work going into this race has been super and he will be very tough to beat. 4 EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN has been rested for 154 days, he was last seen winning the Grade 3 Langerman impressively by just under one length, the yard think highly of this colt, he is improving and must be respected in a big way. 2 ON MY HONOUR has done everything asked of him, he has a tremendous action and quickens smartly, the sky could be the limit for this three-year-old son of Gimmethegreenlight, include him. 6 GARRIX won his maiden exceptionally well, this is a big step up in class now, but he will love the step up in trip, watch him closely. (Brandon Bailey: 5 – 4 – 2 – 6)

RACE 8

1 EMPIRE STATE had no luck in running last time, he was a long way back when they turned for home and he stayed on strongly late behind Aristotle, from a good draw again there should be no excuses, he will go very close to winning at a decent price. 2 SPIRIT’S UNITE never runs a bad race, he is as honest as the day is long, from a good draw, he should be amongst the places again. 11 UNICORN ALERT could represent all the value in this wide-open looking race, the blinkers are off and he continues to drop in the ratings, with some luck in running, he could give them all a fright in the finish. 6 BILLY COOL is a lovely looking sort that ran a fair race out the maidens, he needed that run and will enjoy the step up in trip, watch for big improvement. RACE 9

6 ROYAL PORT LOUIS finished second behind a smart horse last time, he has been super consistent through his entire career, this looks to be a nice race for him to get it right. 3 HEEMSTEDE had no luck in running from a wide draw last time at Hollywoodbets Durbanville, he is a good-looking son of Potala Palace that will improve lengths from his first run, watch him closely. 2 EXPRESS YOURSELF was only beaten just under four lengths by Zeitz in his most recent start, he is improving with every run and must be respected in this tricky looking race. 12 FUTURE FREQUENCY improved tremendously in his second start at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, he should love the step up in trip, watch him late. (Brandon Bailey: 6 – 3 – 2 – 12)

RACE 10

4 GOLDEN GREY was very disappointing in his most recent start behind Join The Dots, he is a tricky horse that needs a particular ride, in hope that the race works out for him, he should be able to bounce back to form and must be included into all bet types. 1 GREENLIGHT LEGEND ran on powerfully behind Forgotten Song last time, she made up good ground late from a long way back, from a good draw with no weight on her back, she must be included. 2 BOMBERS IN THE SKY ran a lovely race behind Zeitz last time, the blinkers come off and he steps up in trip, watch for further improvement. 8 CONGRESSMAN likes to race up on speed, he can be quite strong in his races, hopefully he settles in running over this 2000m trip and he can earn again for the connections. Horse-by-horse guide: Howden Ascot Hurdle, Saturday

Jamie Lynch, At The Races’ Senior Form Analyst, is at Ascot on Saturday for Sky Sports Racing and here he puts the day’s signature contest in the spotlight.

Over and above the 1965 Chase, the Grade 2 Howden Ascot Hurdle at 16H45 on Saturday is the race of the day at Ascot.

There’s only six runners declared but they are a meaningful mix of assets, approaches and ages. The past and the future meet in the present, because four of these have already been in a Grade 1, while Golden Ace is destined for that loftiest level sooner rather than later. Let’s look at the contenders in detail.

1. BLUEKING D’OROUX

Jockey: H Cobden | Trainer: P F Nicholls

Hard to believe he’s still only 5 given all he’s done already, including winning this very race last year, though that was a substandard renewal, for which he still has a penalty now, plus he came in hot then (had made a successful return at Cheltenham), unlike this time, a time when the stable’s reappearers have needed a run more than ever, even the bigger guns.

Individually, though, he has a good record when fresh, as he was for his final start last season (after a 4-month break) when producing a personal best for fourth – to Impaire Et Passe – in the best Select Hurdle we’ve ever seen, thanks to the trainers’ title going down to the last day. That’s the top-rated form in the race according to the official handicapper but, even if picking up where he left off, he’ll do well to give 10 lb to Golden Ace.

2. SALVER

Caoilin Quinn | G & J Moore

A half-brother to Grade 1 winner Saldier and went two places better than that one when third in a Triumph Hurdle, his first and only defeat since perceptively plucked from a Milan maiden. Despite Sir Gino’s absence, it was still a worthy edition of the Triumph won by Majborough, while runner-up secured her Grade 1 at Punchestown, and it’s significant that Burdett Road struck an early blow for last year’s juveniles in the Greatwood.

He looked such a natural two-miler last season that there’s just a nagging doubt about him over this trip, but it won’t be a slog, given the ground, and generally there are no worries about him training on, the size of him. He’s got a bit to find with a few, but the point is that he might find it, being an up-and-coming 4-y-o.

3. COLONEL MUSTARD

On the face of it, he’s an underachiever who’s over the hill, rising 10 and with just two novice wins to his name, but that’s misrepresentative of his class and consistency, as he has been at all of the big events and contested six Grade 1s, including last season’s Champion Hurdle when an unthreatening fifth to State Man.

And he has a few things in his favour here, principally that it’s probably more of a ‘Cup Final’ for him than the others and, to that end, he’s the only one with a recent run behind him, an eye-catching one at that. Besides fitness, he has precisely the right blend for what this race will test, and he was very well suited to Ascot the once he came, for the Kennel Gate back in 2021, when second to none other than Jonbon. There’s no way Colonel Mustard should be the outsider of the six.

4. LUCKY PLACE

N de Boinville | N J Henderson

The stresses of the stable meant that Nicky Henderson ran only 16 horses at the Cheltenham Festival, half of which were pulled up, while four others were tailed off, and only two ran really well: Luccia and Lucky Place. To finish fourth of 21 in the Coral Cup, as a novice, from a misfiring yard, was quite the achievement, and it was just the last in a sequence of uplifts, having chased home Gidleigh Park in a Grade 2 the time before, and been beaten just ¾ length by Golden Ace (giving her a stone) the time before that.

He’s the chosen one for a stable that also had Jango Baie entered up, though that may be to do with readiness than rank, and he’ll definitely climb higher this season, but maybe more after this race than in this race which is bound to push a few pressure points over this trip on goodish ground first time out.

5. THUNDER ROCK

S Bowen | O Murphy

He’s a mid-150s chaser, but it’s 2½ years and 11 races since he last ran over hurdles, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how good he still is at this game: the handicapper’s guess is 149 which is second only to Blueking D’Oroux in the ratings hierarchy of this race, but that’s probably overstretching things.

He has won first time out the last two seasons, but it’s safe to presume it’s a pipe-opener this time around, though in his stable tour on attheraces.com earlier this month Olly Murphy highlighted this race for him, as well as stating that “jumping fences isn’t the easiest for him at times.” Assumption is the mother of all mistakes, they say.

6. GOLDEN ACE

“I’m not going to say she’s the best mare I’ve had because Apple’s Jade was pretty special, but she’s very, very good.” Brighterdaysahead has lived up to the hype for Gordon Elliott and beaten everything put in front of her…apart from the time she came up against Golden Ace at Cheltenham. True, she was getting 5 lb from Brighterdaysahead in the Dawn Run and the sprint finish suited her the better but it was still quite the signature at the bottom of an unblemished, season-long statement which proposed a Grade 1 graduation for this campaign.

Her dam was a listed winner on the Flat and Golden Ace tanks through her races like she could do the same if ever sent that way, but her strong-travelling style has got her this far over hurdles and marked her out from the crowd, even the best of the Irish at Cheltenham, and, because that was a novice, it halves her Grade 2 penalty, meaning she still gets weight off everything in here, against the males. If good to go first time out, she’ll take a lot of beating.

JAMIE LYNCH’S VERDICT

This race starts and very probably ends with Golden Ace who grew in status and significance through her first season and has the tools to go to the very top, which makes this reappearance more of a stepping stone, plus the trainer reported in October a slight setback of a pulled muscle. It’s easy to overlook COLONEL MUSTARD for the simple fact he’s the old man of the party, but it may be a big help that he’s the only one of these with race-fitness on his side following a second at Sligo which suggested that all of his powers are intact, and those powers don’t line up with his price, too big for the qualities he’s got.

Ho's 600th HK Win Could Be Karma

Bidding to become only the 11th jockey to ride 600 winners or more in Hong Kong, Vincent Ho believes a solid tempo in the HK$3.12 million Class 2 Chevalier Cup Handicap (1600m) will enhance Karma’s winning chances at Sha Tin on Sunday (24 November).

Trained by Caspar Fownes, Karma was one of several backmarkers caught out after the field split into two divisions in the G3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Handicap (1800m) at Sha Tin on 3 November and eventually finished ninth, beaten three and three-quarter lengths, behind Ensued.

But Ho hopes this weekend’s race will pan out more favourably for long-striding Karma, who has drawn barrier 13, with Ho looking to gradually improve into the race behind an expected good pace set by Telecom Fighters, Healthy Happy, Voyage Samurai and Top Gun.

“The draw is not the most ideal, but it is what it is but let’s see how the race pans out. He always comes from back, but it’s not really necessary to be too far back. Let’s see how the speed is in the race,” Ho said.

“He’s a decent horse and back to a mile, he will perform. He needs time to be more mature, mentally. He’s still doesn’t know what his limit is, he keeps improving.

Headed by veteran Healthy Happy, a dual Group 3 winner and Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) victor, the Chevalier Cup features an intriguing mix of seasoned gallopers including Atullibigeal and Telecom Fighters and progressive horses such as Green N White, Helene Feeling, Karma, Patch Of Theta, Young Champion, Sunlight Power and Voyage Samurai.

Adding another dimension to the race is Romantic Thor – a Listed winner in England where he raced as Capulet for Aidan O’Brien – who makes his Hong Kong debut for Danny Shum and Andrea Atzeni. Twice placed at Group 2 level over 1600m in Ireland and England, the Kentucky-bred son of Justify is raced by Romantic Warrior’s owner Mr Peter Lau.

The three-year-old is on a potential BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) path and finished second in a 1650m barrier trial on dirt at Sha Tin on 7 November. He will jump from barrier seven on Sunday.

With 599 Hong Kong victories, Ho is on the cusp of joining a select band of riders to reach 600 wins – Douglas Whyte (1,813), Zac Purton (1,780), Joao Moreira (1,235), Tony Cruz (946), Brett Prebble (806), Karis Teetan (704), Gary Moore (694), Basil Marcus (671), Gerald Mosse (659) and Felix Coetzee (652).

Ho has 16 wins this season and, apart from Karma, will attempt to add to the total aboard So Awesome, Jolly Companion, Super Win Dragon, Devas Twelve, Star Glow, Endued and Amazing Victory.

Seven-time Hong Kong champion jockey Purton will partner Frankie Lor’s emerging talent Savvy Brilliant in the Class 3 Chevalier Property Management Handicap (1200m) but is concerned at the Toronado gelding’s barrier manners.

Winner of his past two starts, Savvy Brilliant will jump from gate three.

“He’s not getting the start right, though, which is a concern. He’s been lucky he’s been in two races where they’ve run along and set it up for him and helped him but if he gets in a race where they go standard speed, he’s going to make it hard for himself so he needs to sort himself out,” Purton said.

“It doesn’t matter what barrier he’s coming out of at the moment, he’s coming out really awkwardly and really slowly – he’s actually getting worse, which is a bit of a concern.

“(Overall), he’s improving all the time, his last win was very good, he had to make up a lot of ground and I thought he was quite strong through the line.”

Atzeni also partners Ricky Yiu-trained Solid Win Class 4 Chevalier Lifts & Escalators Handicap (1600m) but has to contend with barrier 13.

“He’s been very consistent, he should run well again. The last day, he hit the front and I thought he was going to come and win the race but obviously the horse on the inside (Flying Luck), got me late,” Atzeni said.

“He’s stepping up in trip, which I think will suit him but we could have done with a better barrier. I’ll have to speak to Ricky to see what he wants to do. We’ll have to see what happens from that gate.”

R1 Summary: MAJOR TOMMIE (10) made a promising debut and did find some market support. He was only beaten just over a length by Future Flo who has since franked that form. MIND MAP (1) has finished runner-up in both local start, both on the poly. He was second best behind Mc Dazzler last run but could do better in this line-up. BRING THE MAGIC (4) has shown some ability and in with a money chance. LITTLE CRACKER (2) started at long odds on debut but should come on with the experience. Most of the balance are first timers with all trainers commenting that their charges will need the run. Watch the betting here. (Andrew Harrison: 10-7-4-2).

R2 Summary: SUN IN MY POCKET (3) is talented but does not have the easiest of temperaments. If Wendy Whitehead’s charge can keep the lid on until the gates open she could prove hard to beat. LITTLEBLACKGEM (2) has run well over course and distance And showed up well first up from a lengthy lay-off last time out. She looks the biggest threat to Sun In My Pocket. DRESSTOTHENINES (7) Has not been far back since racing in blinkers but has had a few chances. She gets a 4kg claimer up which will help her cause. LIGHTINTHEDARKNESS (9) gets first time blinkers and could up her game. (Andrew Harrison: 3-2-7-9).

R3 Summary: WOZA NAWE (5) found one to good for her when starting favourite last run. It was a narrow defeat but Peter Muscutt has declared blinkers and if they have the desired effect, she rates the one to beat. BAO LA (1) has the best of the draw and Gareth van Zyl’s filly has her third run after a lengthy break. She is lightly raced and could make the required improvement over the extra furlong. LA VIDA LOCA (6) has not been far back in her two local starts and can feature in this company. DEE DAY (10) has drawn wide but also has her peak run and cannot be ruled out. R4 Summary: GO GRAYSON GO (7) has shown steady improvement for Frikkie Greyling and was run out of it late when favourite last time out. At his penultimate start he was runner-up to Mike de Kock’s Cape Guineas entry Artists Model. Alyson Wright has booked log-leading rider Gavin Lerena for WORLD OF OUR OWN (11) who has been placed in all three starts. He has a wide draw to contend with but looks a big threat to Go Grayson Go. MEERCAT MOON (5) steps up to what could be a more suitable trip after running on nicely last time out. LONG GALLERY (12) has drawn in New England Road but was much improved in blinkers last time out and can feature for the in-form Garth Puller yard. (Andrew Harrison: 7-11-5-12).

R5 Summary: VIHAAN’S QUEEN (2) got a hefty six-point rise in the handicap after her last win but still looks quite well in at these weights. She won well last time out and Gareth van Zyl appears to have picked the right race for a back-to-back attempt. AFRICAN BEAT (7) has her third run after a break and was narrowly beaten last time out. Mike Miller has stepped her up to what looks to be a more comfortable trip. MISS PLATINA (3) steps up in trip after being a beaten favourite last start on the poly. Tinnie Prinsloo’s filly looks held by Vihaan’s Queen at the weights but she is in good form. BROADWAY GIRL (5) finished in front of Miss Platina when last they met but Stuart Ferrie’s filly is now 1kg worse off. (Andrew Harrison: 2-7-3-5).

R6 Summary: Tricky handicap. GLOBAL MOVEMENT (3) got a two-point rise in the handicap for running second but he has consistent recent form and Tienie Prinsloo has booked Gavin Lerena for the ride. ONE SCOTCH (5) got a hefty rating for his maiden win and with top weight it remains to be seen if it was a realistic opinion by the handicappers. LAKE COMO (1) has not been far back at recent starts and has been slowly dropping in the handicap. He has Rachel Venniker’s allowance to assist and from the best of the draw he has a chance at long odds. FUTURE SAINT (6) has his third outing for Prinsloo and steps up to a more suitable trip. He could also be a surprise package. Not an easy race. (Andrew Harrison: 3-5-1-6).

R7 Summary: JANE’S VISION (9) has a good early record on this track and has come well of late. She takes a big drop in class and with Rachel Venniker’s allowance she should be a strong contender. LADY OF VIX (2) won well at second time of asking and Tony Rivalland’s charge looks progressive. She got a hefty rating but does look capable. PRANKSTER (3) is never far back and was two lengths behind Jane’s Vision when last they met. With a 4kg claimer up she is much better off at the weights and it will be up to the apprentice to shine. AYUWI YUWI (11) is also better off at the weights with Jane’s Vision with her four claimer up so can also lay claims. (Andrew Harrison: 9-2-3-11).

R8 Summary: Wide open handicap. Paul Lafferty has set THE GHOST (13) up against males but she ran a smart race in much stronger company last time out. She has a big weight to shoulder but does look progressive and has a touch of class which could see her home. Garth Puller has cleverly placed MASTERBLING (10) who has won four of his last five starts and as a five-year-old has only been creeping up the handicap. He still looks well weighted so expect another big effort. Top weight PROFESSOR LUPIN (14) is slightly better off in the weights with Masterbling but is in good form of late. ULTRA QUICK (6) has been holding form and is another that comes into the picture. (Andrew Harrison: 13-10-14-6).
