Richard Fourie is back in action at Fairview on Friday with racing taking place on the Polytrack.

Fourie was away last week, and trainer Alan Greeff struggled, but they will be back in the winners’ box soon enough.

Ironically though, it does appear that Fourie’s best ride will be Oliver Twist for trainer Gavin Smith in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1600m.

This Ideal World colt has improved with each run and was also a runner-up under Fourie twice in a row.

He was only run out of it late by Karoo Gold last time out over this course and distance last month. That was his first run on the Polytrack and he will have learned from that experience.

Fourie and Greeff team up with last season’s Champion Two-Year-Old-Filly Splicethemainbrace in Race 6, the Fillies Guineas Plate over 1400m.

Unbeaten in five starts as a juvenile Splicethemainbrace won some good races. She does, however, have a couple of question marks that need to be answered.

The Master Of My Fate filly struggled in her only start of this season when never in the race on a soft track in September. It is likely she did not like the conditions that day.

More concerning is that she tries the Polytrack for the first time and has to give rival Happy Holly 8kg. That is a lot of weight to give to a filly she has beaten three times all by very narrow margins.

Happy Holly also disappointed when returning from a break and was only fifth and beaten six lengths by Ellorix over 1000m in her first try on the Polytrack.

Happy Holly was given a soft ride that day and she will be hard to beat at these weights if showing her best side.

R1 (6) Fantasy Girl hasn’t been far back and will be the firm first selection with Richard Fourie aboard. (1) Sweet Cake has been holding solid form and will me a big challenger. (2) String Of Lights ran a good race in the last start and is another with a big winning chance. (7) Gotcha Buzz ran a cracker in the last start and should be there if repeating that performance. R2 (6) OLIVER TWIST is knocking on the door and will be hard to beat. His recent runs have been good, however he does have a tough draw but should be running on strongly hence he is the firm first selection. (1) ROLL OF THE DICE brings highveld form into this contest and must be respected here. (7) SUPER CASANOVA ran a much-improved race in the last start and won’t be far based on that performance. R3 Open race. (1) ANGEL OF MY HEART has never been far in recent starts and can win this contest. (11) TAKE YOUR TIME ran extremely well in the last start at huge odds, there could be more improvement to come if she can build on that. (3) KAMARIA has a decent draw and can run into the money. (2) LADY SONATINE has the improvement factor on her side, from the best draw with a strong rider up she must be respected. ( Devonne Govender 1-11-3-2)

R4 (1) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL is holding solid form and is the firm first choice. (8) MARQUEZ could be the main danger to the top selection from a decent draw with Richard Fourie aboard. (5) MY AMI BEACH ran a smart race in the last start and will be there in the mix. (7) GRADUATION TIME is never far back and is very capable on his day so is a must include. R5 Open race. (8) DONNY TEE is holding form and will be a massive runner, excellent last run. (3) LEDELL’S ECHO has been holding solid consistent form and will have huge winning chance. R6 (1) SPLICETHEMAINBRACE is very classy and should take some beating in this contest respectfully. (3) HAPPY HOLLY is another who is classy and has plenty more to come so has the be factored into everything. (2) CAN’T SAY NO won a gutsy race in the last start and can make the placings. R7 (2) CATCH YOUR BREATH won impressively in the last start and will be a massive runner however does have a tough draw. (8) SCAMPTON has a decent draw and will be right there, he is very capable on his day and must go in. (6) PEDRO is another who is racing consistently and won’t be far, if he repeats that’s last run, he can win this. (10) BEAU KALA is capable of a big finish and will make her presence felt.
