Cousin Casey has been scratched from the Gr 1 R6million Betway Summer Cup after being found to have a ligament injury, but trainer Sean Tarry said the prognosis was better than initially thought and added he was positive about a full Autumn Highveld and KZN Champions Season campaign and had also not completely ruled out a Summer campaign in Cape Town.

He said, “The second scan is very encouraging. It looks way better than we thought. We’re just going to keep monitoring it and make plans according to what we’re seeing on the scans. I would hope it will not jeopardise Autumn and Durban and we haven’t put Cape to bed yet, but Cape is a longshot. We’re not panicking and whatever we do will always be with his wellbeing at the forefront of our minds.”

The five-year-old Vercingetorix entire was an  Equus Champion Two-year-old and although he has not won a race for two years he still had a magnificent four-year-old campaign with no fewer than five runner up finishes, three of them in Gr 1s and two of them in Gr 2s.
