A seven-race programme on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday sees some smallish fields, but the racing nevertheless looks quite competitive, although there are a few solid win and place betting opportunities.
However, trainer Dean Kannemeyer has always had a knack of knowing which horses to race on the Polytrack and he could come up trumps once in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1600m, where he sends out Prince Florian.
This three-year-old son of What A Winter had an eye-catching debut on the turf at Greyville last time where he ran on from near last on the turf track at Greyville to finish a 1.70-length fifth behind Got The Word over 1400m.
Nothing went right for the half-brother to Industrialstrength as he lost two lengths at the start, raced greenly throughout before putting it together late in the race.
That experience will have brought him on and with the additional 200m also sure to suit, he could prove too good for his opposition.
Craig Zackey takes the ride once again and they will jump from No 5 draw.
Tony Rivalland-trained Magma Magic could provide the main threat as he had some bad luck last time as he got into a bumping match late in the race couldn’t regather himself in time.
Importantly, with a set of blinkers fitted, he showed he enjoys racing from the front which could prove a valuable attribute on the Polytrack.
Rivalland could also get bettors off the mark in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m, where he send out Vercingetorix filly Lady Of Vix. She made her debut over 1000m at HWB Scottsville in July and showed good pace before weakening into third, beaten 1.90-lengths.
The winner of that race, Icy Lancaster, has gone on to win a handicap recently and appears to have still more to come.
Jockey Mathew Thackeray rode her on debut and he is back in the irons once again, but will have to overcome No 9 draw.
