The Turf Talk Syndicate will have their first runner at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday when the Paul Reeves-trained Querari filly Heritage Ridge appears in the first race, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1000m, under Robert Khathi.
Reeves described the filly after she had had her first grass gallop at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on March 28.
He said, “She’s very precocious, shows a lot of speed. Little bit green atround the turn, but it is her first time on the track, so it is to be expected, but down the straight she was an absolute professional, straight as a dye, and put up a very nice piece of work with a nice action.”
Gareth Wright was aboard and he said she was a bit green around the turn, but thereafter “moved beautifully” and  was “quite natural”, so he believed it to be a “promising gallop.”
The Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein-bred Heritage Ridge is out of a one time-winning full sister to Gr 1 Cape Guineas winner Noah From Goa.
The dam called Limerick Ridge is by Tiger Ridge out of Fort Wood mare Limerick, who won five times from 1200m up to 2400m.
Limerick Ridge’s only win was over 1400m.
So there is speed in the pedigree and some stamina which should see her acquitting herself well over the tough Hollywoodbets Kenilworth 1000m course and distance.
Heritage Ridge put in a good gallop recently with the other of the two founding Turf Talk syndicate horses, the Riethuiskraal Stud-bred Duke Of Marmalade filly Garden Of Eden.
The latter is not as forward but impressed all and sundry who saw the gallop and has the syndicate members excited.
However, Heritage Ridge kept up with her which augurs well for her prospects too.
Reeves has always been impressed with the pair of fillies.
He said about them upon their arrival at his Milnerton yard, “They are two smashing fillies, both have good size, good bone, you can’t fault these horses. The first thing I do when I go to the sales is I look at horses and mark them down from perfect by taking points off for slightly skew legs or over the knee or turns in, turns out, weak shoulder or weak behind etc … you can’t minus jack from these two fillies! They’re beautiful, beautiful animals and I think if these two were on the last two-year-old Cape Racing Sales sale I think they would have gone for some big money, especially on pedigree.”
To top it all they both move well and have good actions, so it is exciting times for the Turf Talk Syndicate!
