Drakenstein Stud had a red letter day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday, winning five races as breeders, including the first four of the meeting, and one of their five was a homebred.
Furthermore, they had two Gr 3 wins.
The Vaughan Marshall-trained One World colt One Stripe won the Gr 3 Winter Nursery over 1100m from stablemate Lion Rampart, who is also by One World.
It was One Stripe’s second Gr 3 victory of the season.
The Justin Snaith-trained five-year-old Trippi gelding Pacaya later won the Gr 3 Legal Eagle Stakes over 1800m.
It was Pacaya’s first stakes win of the season and he thus became Drakenstein’s 18th individual Gr 1 winner of the season.
Their 18 individual stakes winners of 25 races exactly equals their record-breaking stakes tally of the 2021/2022 season.
However, they smashed that last season with 20 individual stakes winners of 35 races.
It looks likely they are going to break the record for a third successive season.
They were champion breeders last season for the first time, but this season are currently R1,694,444 behind Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein in an intriguing race for the title.
