A conclusion has been reached on one of the court cases which arose from the well documented incident that took place at the Tony Peter yard on Betway Summer Cup day.

The NHA sent out the following press release today:

Mrs Marcelle Peter had laid criminal charges in November 2023 against Mr Riaan Janse Van Rensburg, a Senior Special Investigating Officer in the employ of The National Horseracing Authority, from events that took place at Mr Anthony Peter’s stables at Turffontein Racecourse on the day of the Summer Cup on 25 November 2023.

Following the completion of investigations by the South African Police into this charge, the Control Prosecutor at the Booysens Magistrate Court, on 4 March 2024, on considering all available evidence, inclusive of the video footage of the days event, declined to prosecute for lack of a prima facie case.

The other court case which arose from the incident is a R70 million lawsuit against the NHA by Tony Peter for defamation and is ongoing.
