The top South African Commentator Alistair Cohen has learnt he has been replaced For the Dubai World Cup meeting by American commentator Larry Collmus just a fortnight out from the big event.

He spoke of his feelings of betrayal in a twitter post this morning and stated the chief reason for five months of sacrifice away from friends and family was for the privilege of commentating on Dubai World Cup night.

However, Alistair only had good wishes for Collmus himself and said, “He truly is a world class commentator and will do the great day justice.”

The 56 year-old Collmus called his first race in 1985 and has been the NBC caller for the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup since 2011 and the NYRA caller since 2014, having earlier been the winter caller at Aqueduct and the full-time caller at Gulfstream Park.

Alistair thanked all the commentators around the world for their messages of support  as well as thanking friends and colleagues for the wonderful memories he had built in his two stints in Dubai.

He spoke of the privilege of commentating the 2022 Dubai World Cup.

However, never one to look back, Alistair ended the tweet in the typical  upbeat tone of the dynamic young man he is and said, “Now its time to head home, give Candice a hug, sleep in my bed, walk my dogs, light a braai and plot my next move.”
