Canadian Summer saunters home in the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes (Candiese Lenferna).

The connections of the Grade 1 Thekwini winner Canadian Summer opted for her to skip both Cape Town and Johannesburg and she is instead being aimed at the SA Champions Season classics in KZN.

Trainer Darryl Moore is away on honeymoon at present.

The owner of the Oratorio filly, Preggie Somasundram, said, “We decided to tackle races on her home turf rather than travel. We are targeting the WSB Fillies Guineas and then the Woolavington and depending on how well she finishes in the latter race we will then hopefully go for the July.”

Preggie admitted winning the July was not the realistic thought behind targeting South Africa’s premier race.

Rather it has always been his dream to just have a runner in the July.

He said, “I’ve had a runner in the Summer Cup before (Dynamite Mike), but never the July.”

He continued, “She is extremely well at present and has strengthened up very nicely.”

Preggie said there had been a lack of races for Canadian Summer in KZN lately.

Therefore she hasn’t been seen since making light of a 3kg Grade 1 penalty in the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville and winning by a comfortable 2,10 lengths under regular rider Jason Gates.

However, the connections are eyeing a 1400m event in March to keep her ticking over.

Preggie concluded, “A lot of the fillies she beat in the Thekwini look to be tired … they all ran downfield in the Gauteng Fillies Guineas. It is going to take a special one to beat her on her home turf.
