Pietermaritzburg alderman Rob Haswell is a part-owner and outright owner respectively of the Doug Campbell-trained Crested Eagle (Crusade) and the Nathan Kotzen-trained Justforthepenny (Just As Well) and was thrilled by their one-two finish on the Hollywoodbets Greyville poly on Monday under Rachel Venniker and Muzi Yeni respectively.

He has consequently had a T-shirt made of the finish and was cheered by the regulars at his local Track And Ball outlet when arriving their wearing the shirt! (see picture above).

Fittingly, both horses were bred by racing men from the region, Crested Eagle having been bred by Bruce Campbell, and Justfortheepenny having been bred by a good friend of Rob’s, the late Anton Procter.

Rob owns Crested Eagle together with Bruce Campbell, Doug Campbell, J E M Campbell, Timothy de la Hey and S A MacGregor.

The exacta had some sentiment attached to it to because Rob named the now six-year-old gelding Justfortheepenny in honour of his late wife Penny, who was a pillar of ‘Maritzburg society and well known for her philanthropic work.

Rob and his friends arrive at their local Track And Ball for the first race everyday and are there until kicked out after the last U.K. race.

His passion for the Sport Of Kings extends to holiday plans and he has recently returned from a trip to the USA to attend a few days of the storied Saratoga meeting.
