Picture: Piere “The Blonde Bomber” Strydom returns to the winners enclosure after riding the milestone 5,500th win of his glittering career. The picture was taken by Racing Post journalist Jonathan Harding, who was able to tick another course off his world list and he sure chose a good day to visit the “slightly random track.”

Vicky Lerena rode the winner of the first at the Vaal Classic yesterday, a workrider’s maiden over 1200m, and husband  Gavin later gave the family double cause to celebrate by winning the seventh.

Keagan de Melo, S’manga Khumalo both rode doubles and Johan Janse van Vuuren saddled a double.

Vicky Lerena has a perfect one win from one ride this season.

Gavin moves to 21 wins at a strike rate of 15.11%.

De Melo is on 103 wins at 21.33%, 38 wins clear of joint second-placed Muzi Yeni and Richard Fourie.

Khumalo is next on the log on 63 wins at a strike rate of 17.26%.

Janse van Vuuren is on 30 wins at 18.75%.
