The progressive Paul Peter-trained four-year-old Elusive Fort gelding Naval Guard has been the most eyecatching mover in the Hollywoodbets Durban July market as his price has shortened dramatically from an opening mark of 100/1 into 20/1.

This rangy bay has won three in a row since being stepped up to middle distances and has put a combined total of 8.60 lengths between himself and the opposition in those races.

Watch Naval Guard winning over 1800m  (Turffontein Inside – Navy blue, white crossed sashes, white sleeves, navy blue cuffs, quartered cap drawn 1).

However, he is merit rated only 90 so still has a lot to prove.

His remaining July qualifying options look to be the Grade 3 Cup Trial over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on June 11, the Grade 3 Jubilee Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein Standside on June 12 and the Grade 3 Track And Ball Derby over 2400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on June 18.

He will have to win or go close in one of those qualifying events to force his way in so taking the 20/1 poses some risk, especially when considering the like of WSB Summer Cup winner Flying Carpet is double his odds on 40/1.
