There appear to be two stand-out bets on the Durbanville card on Monday with You Know Who in Race 2 and Winter Furi looking hard to oppose in Race 7.
Trained by Justin Snaith and ridden by Richard Fourie, debutant You Know Who opened around 5-1 but drifted to 8-1 by the off.
He showed good pace but proved no match for Safe Return who went on to beat You Know Who into second by 4.25 lengths. Snaith’s charge will have come on appreciably for that run over 1000m and, with natural improvement expected, should go one better over 1250m this time.
Of course, draws at Durbanville are paramount and You Know Who is well enough positioned in barrier No 5. He does have gate speed, which is so vital at Durbanville as most of the winners we have seen so far this year have led from pillar to post. Fourie stays with You Know Who for this race.
There are a number of first-timers so one would be advised to keep an eye on the betting for any relevant movements, but they would have to be really decent to get the better of You Know Who.
Winter Furi contests a MR 72 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1250m, and it’s worth noting her only win was at this course.
Andre Nel’s charge has a lot going for her. She has good form, in-form Grant van Niekerk is in the irons and she is drawn in pole position.
