COVERT Garden, a half-sister to retired superstar Winx, has been accepted for Wednesday’s opening race at Canterbury, a two-year-old handicap over 1100 metres, with Winx’s regular jockey Hugh Bowman booked to ride.

The Chris Waller-trained Covert Garden was due to make her eagerly anticipated debut at Warwick Farm on Monday but was scratched from the 1200-metre race due to be held on a heavy track.

Canterbury racecourse at 7am Monday was rated Heavy (10) but there’s hope of the track condition improving ahead of raceday with fine skies and no rainfall forecast.

Covert Garden has been given three official trials and got a taste of winning in her most recent hitout over 910 metres at Canterbury. – Racing.com
