OUR correspondent Andrew Bon has gone MIA, he does that now and then but it is the festive season and he works so hard during the year so we forgive him.
Since there’s no interview package today we looked through our selections for the Turffontein meeting to find something to write about. (Card changes below article).
If you’re a reader of the Turf Talk Newsletter you’ll know we’re big on value bets, we tipped a nice one in Sporting Monarch (9-1) midweek and today we’re going for Olofberg (Race 2, 1400m, (10-1 – 12-1), to win for in-form Paul Matchett.
We haven’t got any stock photos of this fella, but we do have one of Olof Bergh Brandy, a product that is much consumed at this time of year. It’s a brannewyn growing in stature, it tastes somewhere between Klipdrift and Ricky Louw and goes down well as a double with coke and ice!
The horse Olofberg is three years old and quite a nice, progressive sort. He’s had a spin in a few three-year-old features, not far off them, and has raced up to MR80 class with form against eight-time winner Sovereign Reign, which puts him right on a par with today’s main rivals Bold Coast, Varimax and Judd’s Rocket.
Thing is, Bold Coast is 5-2 favourite, Varimax is 9-2, Judd’s Rocket is 9-1, and Olofberg is now 10-1 with Betting World (14-1 with Hollywood and 15-1 with Interbet yesterday), he has shortened so there is a nibble, and hence represents nice value even if he shortens further.
If he wins, have a double Olof and ice with us.
If he runs a shocker, have two double Olofs and ices with us!
Have a nice day now, ho ho!
