MULTIPLE Hong Kong champion jockey Douglas Whyte has steered Scales Of Justice to an all-the-way win in Saturday’s Group 1 Railway Stakes over 1600m in Perth, Australia.

Whyte got the call-up to ride the Lindsey Smith-trained gelding when Paul Harvey was suspended last Saturday when Scales Of Justice won the Group 3 R J Peters Stakes, also over 1600m.

Scales Of Justice ($9) won the Railway Stakes by two and three quarters of a length over last year’s winner, the Chris Waller-trained Good Project ($9), with $4.60 favourite Perfect Reflection in third.

“It’s good to get another Group One win in Western Australia, I love the place, I’ve got to thank Lindsey for giving me the ride as (I got the call up) at the 24th hour,” Whyte told Sky  Thoroughbred Central.

“I know a lot about Lindsey, he’s a great trainer. I was confident at the 1400 metres, really, as I got him to put his ears up and Lindsey gave me all the confidence in the world.

“He said, ‘If no one wants to lead, you lead, and you won’t get beaten’, so when he put his ears up and when I turned for home and pressed the button he had a whole lot of engine there.”
