SIX-year-old Wealthy reserves his best for Scottsville. He delivered again in Sunday’s Listed Michael Roberts Handicap at the Pietermaritzburg track, running on powerfully to win the 1750m contest, considered too short.
“He loves it here, when he cantered down it felt like he had a bit of extra spunk,” jockey Sean Veale said after the race.
Wealthy came from last in a competitive field and Veale added: ”It was race over at the top of the straight, he just pulled me through them. This horse hasn’t looked back since he had a wind op, he wasn’t supposed to run here but I’m glad the stable left him in, he just blew then away!”
Part-owner Peter Gibson thanked veterinarian Dr Johnny Cave for performing the wind operation and expressed his delight at being able to receive a winning trophy from the legendary Michael Roberts, who was inducted into the SA Hall Of Fame last week.
Wealthy is by Silvano from Wealth, by Badger Land. He has won six of 28 starts for Dennis Drier’s yard.
