THE race meeting, scheduled for the Vaal today, has been abandoned due to a grooms strike at Randjesfontein, where horses were unable to be loaded in order to leave the premises to the country course.

In another report, there is said to be unrest and the burning of tyres on the Vereeniging highway on the way to the Vaal. This may or may not be racing-related, but trucks carrying horses from Turffontein were told to turn back as early as 930 this morning.

“The trainers at Randjesfontein are still negotiating with the EFF and grooms,” said Phumelela’s Clyde Basel.
