RACE 1: Preview: HOPE IS POWER (1) has run to good races and looks to have scope for improvement so should be right there. MODERN MAGICIAN (5) is by Willow Magic and is a full-brother to Dubawi Princess who was competitive as an early two-year-old. THERE SHE GOES (7) has run two fair races and as a maiden and a female, both of which give her weight allowances, she can go close. (David Thiselton 1-5-7).
RACE 2: Preview: SLIGHTLY SPANISH (2) was only 0,60 length behind Ra’ed last time in a 1450m race where the form has been franked. RA’ED (1) improved last time when stepped up to this trip but does have a tough draw. SWING THE WILLOW (8) had relatively good form before being rested for nine months so he could earn in this uninspiring field.
(David Thiselton 2-1-8)
RACE 3: Preview: ESSENCE (3) ran on well last time when stepped up to this trip and she now has a better draw. BELLE OF BELIZE (2) disappointed last time after seeming to have every chance and will and is now tried in blinkers. GOLDEN SPOON (4) looks capable of running on into the money. (David Thiselton 3-2-4)
RACE 4: TWICE THE ACT (7) won well last time over 2000m with first time cheek-pieces and off a three point higher mark from a good draw can follow up. VELD FLOWER (1) won well over 2000m last time proving she is better at middle distances than staying ones and from a good draw she has a chance of following. ALL AGLOW (6) won well in the maidens when stepped up to this trip. (David Thiselton 7-1-6)
RACE 5: Preview: DONT LOOK BACK (9) has been a revelation on the Highveld’s galloping tracks and he might still be ahead of the handicapper. AFRICAN ADVENTURE (4) is a consistent stayer who has come into his own and he has a fair draw. ODD ROB (7) is a nine-year-old but has accumulated two wins and four places in six runs this season over staying trips, (David Thiselton 9-4-7)
RACE 6: Preview: WAR OF ATHENA (1) needs no introduction and on pedigree should enjoy this trip. SPARKLING WATER (6) is an unexposed progressive filly and from a good draw in her first attempt at this class she could be a threat. MISS ELEGANCE (3) finished third in the Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas and from a good draw could repeat the feat. (David Thiselton 1-6-3)
RACE 7: Preview: SECOND BASE (4) has been impressive over this trip ad has a good draw. MALMOOS (1) should get the trip being a full brother to the useful stayer Captain Splendid. COPPER MOUNTAIN (3) should enjoy this trip and he proved his class in the WSB Gauteng Guineas. CATCH TWENTYTWO (2) stayed on well in the WSB Gauteng Guineas but does take quite a strong hold and is drawn wide. BINGWA (5) led in the WSB Gauteng Guineas but stayed on well after being swamped and is interesting from a plum draw. FLYING CARPET (7) is capable of much better than his last start when rushed around horses and with a more conservative ride could earn. (David Thiselton 4-1-3-2-5-7)
RACE 8: Preview: EXPRESSFROMTHEUS (3) has come into his own and has been aimed at this race which is over a suitable course and distance. MK’S PRIDE (11) continues to improve and should be staying on strongly over his ideal distance. LADY OF STEEL (9) is classy and bounced back to form last time so will be a threat over an ideal trip from a good draw. WHORLY WHORLY (7) has improved into useful sort since being stepped up to this sort of trip. MARYGOLD (8) has a lot of class and will also be effective over the course and distance CIRILLO (2) won this race easily last year but the field was not as strong and he has just returned from a tough Cape Town campaign but he is still definitely one to include dropping in class here. (David Thiselton 3-11-9-7-8-2)
RACE 9: Preview: FOREVER MINE’s (4) chances were affected last time by bursting through the stalls and then becoming caught in a tussle for the lead and as it was his return from a layoff he can be forgiven for the 1,75 length defeat and can make amends here. OLD MAN TYME (5) bounced back to form last time and can be involved again from a nice draw by trends. DOWN TO ZERO (3) has a form chance here but does have a low draw which can be tricky by trends. OROVAR (7) has a draw on the high side which might play in his favour but he probably prefers 1000m. DOUBLE “O” EIGHT (6) beat Old Man Tyme last time over course and distance but is now 3kg worse off. (David Thiselton 4-5-3-7-6)
RACE 10: Preview: HOLY MAN (3) has a standside draw and has the ability to use it to his advantage if it does indeed turn out to be advantageous on the day. PERSICA (12) is also capable of using a favourable draw to her advantage as she has a good turn of foot. WRITTEN IN STONE (9) is ultra consistent and a low draw might not be that disadvantageous to him as he seems to prefer running without cover.
