THE Gurkha, winner of the French 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes for Aidan O’Brien, has been retired and will stand at Coolmore in 2017.
The colt by Galileo had a short, but top career, winning three of his six starts and placing second in both the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
The Gurkha required colic surgery in early August, but is reported to have recovered well.
“He’s a very good-looking and good-moving horse, bred on a similar cross to Frankel, out of a Group-winning two-year-old from the family of an excellent sire in Green Dancer and he’s Europe’s Champion Three-Year-Old Miler elect,” said Coolmore’s David O’Loughlin. “What more could you want?”
