CHAMPION trainer Sean Tarry has a constant stream of capable young runners appearing on the racetrack and one, Captain and Master, caught the eye with an easy debut win over 1200m at Scottsville on Saturday.

Awkwardly away and green, Captain and Master found his way the front within a matter of strides and was well in command throughout the race without jockey Anton Marcus lifting a finger.  He lifted his head, however, twice looking over his shoulder as Captain and Master stride out to a three-length win.

“I thought that was more like five lengths,” quipped Tarry on Monday.  Of course, it could well have been that and more, had Marcus let his mount off the bit. “He’s a nice type of horse, he moves well and has a lot going for him.”

Captain and Master, a Zandvliet Stud graduate from the CTS Select Yearling Sale in 2016. He’s by Captain Al from Scorched, by Jet Master and was a R700,000 purchase for Chris van Niekerk, a known ‘Captain and Master’ himself!
