CHAMPION trainer Sean Tarry paid just R100,000 for Go Deputy filly Tambalang at the 2015 CTS Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale and he retained a share for himself to race with owner Chris Van Niekerk.
Tambalang has rewarded the partnership with four wins from 16 starts, including Saturday’s Gr3 Aquanaut Handicap over 2400m in which she defeated a mixed field in good style under Lyle Hewiston.
Tarry, who has had plenty of career success staying with certain pedigrees, said on Tuesday: “I trained Tambalang’s close relative Divided Loyalty who was a top miler. I also trained her dam Salita for Lammerskraal Stud. She was a big, strong and talented filly but she suffered some leg problems as a result of her size.
“Tambalang has shown us good form from a mile. She finished third to Smiling Blue Eyes in the Gr3 Fillies Mile and also beat Wind Chill over 1700m as a younger filly. But now I think she will be best from 2000m up.”
Tarry said he’d made no firm plans for Tambalang, but she is shaping as a contender with more than a single feature in her. “There are a few features in KZN during the winter, but we may go for the Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg first.”
Tarry had bought Saturday’s third-placed Witchcraft from the CTS R2R Sale held at Inanda in 2014 and he said: “They were bought in successive years and both have given us much pleasure with Graded wins. Witchcraft had to do hard work under top weight on Saturday, she has been a game mare for us with five wins and is another to watch for the rest of the season.”
