TRAINER Coenie de Beer snapped this photo of champion sprinter Talktothestars just before dinnertime on Thursday evening. The five-year-old gelding will be lining up in Saturday’s Gr2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes over 1200m at Kenilworth.

The big, shoeless sprinter enjoys digging into his manger and he did so again when De Beer had left.

Talktothestars raided Cape Town in five successive runs at this time last year and De Beer said: “He hasn’t won here yet, he didn’t get to his peak when we visited last year but he seems a lot happier this time, he looks quite comfortable being back.

“We drove Talktothestars here from the Vaal last Friday and he is based at Harold Crawford’s yard. He is completely settled and very well.  I’ve entered him for the Gr1 Cape Flying Championship but this is not a prep run, he is fit and ready and we’re here to win.”

De Beer has again engaged Piere Strydom, who has ridden Talktothestars in two of his 10 career wins. He said: “I will leave tactics to Piere. He came from behind last time and got third on the horse, he will have to decide what to do tomorrow.”

  1. Many experts believe horses are at their best and fittest when they get the black ring around the eyes, like the photo seems to show. Lets hope he gets back to winning ways!
