THERE are some short-priced runners in the feature races on Charity Mile card at Turffontein on Saturday. But, outside the favoured few – who might well fail to fire – an abundance of opportunity is available to value-seeking punters.

Noble Secret tops Betting World’s boards at 3-1 in the main race, with Matador Man a notch out at 4-1. The only other horse quoted in single figures is New Predator at 8-1.

Coral Fever, 2018 Highveld Horse of the Year no less languishes at 12-1 and tough 10-time winner Captain Aldo at 14-1.

The bookmakers are unable to separate Chimichuri Run and Alyaasaat – saddled by the Highveld’s premier trainers Sean Tarry and Mike de Kock – in the Grade 3 Graham Beck Stakes. Yesterday these colts were joint favourites at 18-10, with 8-1 chance National Park the only other runner anywhere near.

It is a three-year-old contest and young horses can improve quite dramatically, so the likes of Green Haze, Rule The Night and Firdoas could easily upset expectations at long odds.

Similarly, three horses dominate betting for the Grade 3 Princess Charlene Starling Stakes: Celtic Sea (28-10), Ghaalla and Isle De France (both 7-2). Twelve other relatively unexposed fillies are available from 10-1 and upwards.
