THE stage is set for this year’s renewal of the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile (Gr 2), at Turffontein, Saturday – 16 horses, 16 charities, 16 celebrities and 16 media partners all coming together to provide the storyline for what promises to be a day filled with action, excitement and one which enriches a number of lives through the R1 million in prize money which will be divided between the charities on the day.
The, winning charity receiving R150 000, the charity paired with the horse in second place receiving R100 000 and all the other 14 charities getting proportionate amounts of the total donation, depending on the allocated horse’s placement.
Even if you have only a mild interest in racing, there will be plenty of entertainment to keep you occupied and make your Saturday afternoon at the races well worthwhile.
Imagine, for example, bumping into beautiful Michaella Russell, one of the celebrities who will be at the track representing a charity.
Michaella is the remarkable actress who plays the character of Charlie Holmes in the award-winning South African soapie, Isidingo.
“It’s a marvelous day of good cheer all in the name of charity and good-will. What a wonderful reason to have fun – I’m humbled to be a part of it,” she says about being asked to be involved in her first every Charity Mile event.
Michaella feels strongly about celebrities giving back! “We are lucky to be in a position where we have a public platform with a bit of influence. We can’t waste the opportunity to utilise this power in order to inspire others to be proactive and give back as well. Most importantly we should lead by example.”
Prior to starting her acting role as Charlie, Michaella was studying Neuropsychology and Economics. She changed her course to study via correspondence when she was cast in Isidingo.
