As expected both Muzi Yeni and Piere Strydom face sanctions for yesterday’s dust up at the Vaal. as detailed in the following Stipes report extract for Race 4.

d) In the concluding stages, FORT ANNE (P Strydom) was brushed and carried out by NETTA (M Yeni) which shifted out away from the crop.

A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by him lodging an Objection on behalf of the 2nd placed horse FORT ANNE (P Strydom) against the winner NETTA (M Yeni) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages of the race.

The Objection Board, after giving regard to the evidence put forward during the Objection hearing, was of the opinion that the result had been affected by this incident and that FORT ANNE (P Strydom) would have finished ahead of NETTA (M Yeni) had this incident not occurred, and therefore, upheld the Objection and amended the Judges result.

1st                    2          FORT ANNE                 (P Strydom)

2nd                    8          NETTA                          (M Yeni)

3rd                    6          CURVATION                  (*C F Dicken)

4th                    3          LADY AMHERST           (S Khumalo)

5th                    4          BEBOP                         (L Hewitson)

  1. e) Jockey M Yeni was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of NETTA, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FORT ANNE (P Strydom) when he shifted out in the concluding stages. Jockey Yeni signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of ten days.

Suspension dates to be advised.

  1. f) An Inquiry will be opened into Jockey P Strydom’s (FORT ANNE) use of the crop in the concluding stages.

Mr Yeni can count himself very fortunate to not be facing more serious charges, while it will be interesting to see what penalty Strydom gets.

On a lighter note, one slight surprise is that Strydom was not sanctioned for misuse of the crop. Surely those extra 4 or 5 ‘strikes’ took him over the limit?
