CHAMPION colt Mustaaqeem has been accepted to run in Saturday’s Gr3 Man O’War Sprint over 1100m at Turffontein and Callan Murray has taken the ride.
Unbeaten at 2, Mustaaqeem made a handicap return to racing after layoff and injury and finished close-up in fourth, a run which disappointed his supporters but not the Mike de Kock stable, who asked for more understanding considering his ring-rustiness.
De Kock, speaking from on board a flight to Sydney for the Inglis Easter Sale, noted on Wednesday: “We don’t have many options with Mustaaqeem, programming sprinters with a rating as high as his rating is impossible.
“He is very well in here at the weights and has improved on his last start. He galloped very well on Tuesday which gave us the confidence to run him. He has had his niggles but seems to be on the up. Due to the lack of races for him, this Man O’War was an obvious choice.”
