SPIRITED Ryan Munger booted home 1000-1 four-timer at Fairview on Friday. His winners included Justin Snaith’s Madonna in the Listed East Cape Oaks over 2000m.

Munger took his seasonal tally to 109 winners and he remains in the Top 5 on the National Log behind Muzi Yeni, Lyle Hewitson, Anton Marcus and Gavin Lerena.

Munger started off with a short-head win on Arabian Dynasty for trainer Allan Greeff in Race 3 over 1600m, holding off Sabbatical in a driving finish.

The 23-year-old normally gets the second choice of rides to his friend Lyle Hewitson in Yvette Bremner’s yard, but as we often see, PE racing is competitive and harder to read than an Ouija Board. He was seen to advantage on Bremner’s March Music (4-1) in a MR94 Handicap, while the more fancied Maverick Girl finished unplaced.

Madonna was kept within striking distance and raced into the lead about 200m from home, but Munger had to throw all he had at the filly to prevail from Snapscan, who stormed up late and would have won in one more stride.

Bremner’s talented Via Seattle was easy to back at 11-1 in a FM Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m, but again Munger had a narrow advantage over Hewitson’s mount Mrs O, recently relocated from Gauteng and 4-1 favourite.

This one-produced a powerful run from midfield to win going away.
