War Of Athena (9-10) made a major statement of intent as she comfortably saw off Anything Goes (16-10) after the anticipated match race in the Wilgerbosdrift Fillies Guineas at Turffontein.

Paul Matchett had done his homework, and Only The Brave made sure there was a reasonable gallop, turning for home five lengths clear.

The two favourites were near the rear racing in close quarters another five lengths away.

And the race was effectively won 400m out as Muzi Yeni smartly moved War Of Athena up and gained first run on his rival, forcing Randall Simons on Anything Goes to switch out.

He pinched a valuable break which he never looked like relinquishing, and had a cosy two lengths to spare at the wire.

Miss Elegance was a further four and a half lengths adrift in third.

War Of Athena will have her sights sets on the Triple Tiara after this fine win, as she looks sure to stay quite a bit further.
