DONOVAN Mansour was just a single winner in front of Swapneel Rama in the Mauritian Jockeys Championship when he returned from injury to ride at Champ De Mars a week ago, Saturday, but finds himself seven winners clear on the log after yesterday’s meeting.

Mansour rode a comeback double on 20 August, followed by an excellent four-timer for Rameshwar Gujador on Saturday. He he 29 winners to his credit from 84 rides – a top strike rate of 34%, and with three months to go that is a healthy lead considering there is only seven or eight races staged every weekend.

On the photo, Mansour is seen celebrating with one of the connections of Ocean Hunter, his fourth winner of the afternoon in Race 8 on Saturday, the Draper’s Mile.

Mansour suffered a broken toe and bruised a few others when one of his mounts ran into a running rail at a meeting midway though July. “My toes are not fully healed, still a little sore, but you know us jockeys. I’m glad to have come back in good form and thanks to everyone back home for the well wishes.”
