WHERE we are in Johannesburg, spring has sprung, and there’s joy and abundance in the air.
In the US it’s Autumn, or Fall, as they call it, in the city of Saratoga – and the six corn-fed American girls on this photo made the most of their Monday at Siro’s Restaurant yesterday, and tweeted about their fun.
It’s the last week of the famous Saratoga Racing Festival and Siro’s instituted “Moët Monday” to celebrate that with champagne and oysters, something which draws not only beautiful girls, but the die-hard racegoers to the scene as a warm-up for the week ahead.
So we have the spring features coming up in Gauteng – including the Fillies and Mares Challenges, the new Vaal Heritage, the 2016 Jockeys International, the Charity Mile and many others – let’s get innovative this season, let’s get people to the track!
Phumelela’s Clyde Basel reports that big things are planned for 1 October, the inaugural Vaal Heritage race day – and so far they’ve announced entertainer Vin Deysel as one of the highlights at this country racing festival. We’ll be waiting for more news.
In Joburg itself there’s a place called Restaurante Parreirinha, just around the corner from Turffontein Racourse in what is not quite Saratoga, but after their stacks of delicious prawns and chicken, washed down with some “Katemba” – one could be anywhere. It’s all in the mind, isn’t it?
Point is, let’s get some crowds together this spring, and let’s go racing again. There’s still enough entertainment on racecourses and their surrounds to make heads spin!
