Lot 79, a Fire Away colt our of Countesskournikova, from the top family of Mother Russia and Winter Solstice.

Klawervlei Stud has a large consignment of yearlings, broodmares and weanlings to be presented at the Cape Winter Mixed Sale at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Friday.

John Koster of Klawervlei said: “We have taken the same approach as we did for our old Klawervlei Farm Sale – we bring them from the paddocks to the auction ring rough, the natural way. This is a super opportunity for pinhookers and other buyers because our horses are underdone, they always improve and do very well after this sale and with the new CRS initiatives can be pin-hooked and resold at the RTR Sale in late October. Pinhookers can make some good money here.”

Koster said that the CRS bonus initiative programme is another good reason to invest in the Winter Sale, where there is always value across the board. The sale has a wonderful record of producing top class runners who were acquired cheaply, including Klawervlei-bred stars Captain Of All, Edict Of Nantes and Kommetdieding.

Koster discussed selected Klawervlei lots in the three categories: “We have a lovely bunch of yearlings and I invite you to have a look. Among them I have a few favourites including Lot 79, who is a Fire Away colt out of Countesskournikova, from the top family of Mother Russia and Winter Solstice.

Lot 82 is a very nice Captain Of All out of Dream Dancer, who is a half-sister to Edict Of Nantes. He is well balanced, going to develop into a beautiful horse and I fancy this is one that can make any buyer a good profit later.

Lot 87 is well worth noting. He is a bay colt by William Longsword from Experience Counts by Count Du Bois. The dam is a half-sister to smart Durban July runner Without Question (The United States), and this is her second foal.”

Koster said about the Klawervlei weanlings: “We’ve always sold a number of weanlings over the years to encourage the pinhooking of weanlings to yearlings. We’ve got yearlings by some really special mares here. The first I’d like to mention is Lot 172, a Royal Mo filly out of Listed winner Call To Account, by Captain Al. Her Trippi yearling sold for R1,1-million this year.

Lot 174 is a Captain Of All filly born from a Smart Strike mare, internationally bred. She’s special.”

Lot 178 is a filly by Erik The Red. Her dam is a half-sister to stallion One World. Erik The Red has been extremely well supported by Varsfontein at stud, as a son of Captain Al. This is a nice, big and strong filly.

Lot 177 is a William Longsword filly out of Dream Dancer, a half-sister to former three-year-old champion colt, Edict Of Nantes.

Lot 157 is another William Longsword filly out of four-time winner, Intergalactic (G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge). The filly is beautiful and very athletic. Somebody’s going to make a good profit out of her one day.”

Lot 160 is a Pomodoro filly out of Lady Of Kildare, another Captain Al mare who won eight races including a Listed.”

Lot 70 is a super nice Querari colt from a Jet Master mare, she has already produced Captain Of Stealth.”

“I hope buyers will take the opportunities presented here, buy some of these weanlings and do extremely well out of them.”

Koster said that he’s always disliked selling broodmares, but as a boutique stud Klawervlei is forced to sell some of them off to get down to the numbers they want.

He said: “We have some truly nice mares, three of them imported. They present a good chance for breeders to get international blood into their studs. A couple of them are in foal to Twice Over, we’ve seen how well he is doing at the moment. Everyone is crying for a Twice Over, good opportunities here. We also have some really good local female lines to buy into, including Mother Russia (VIEW PEDIGREE)Roxanne (VIEW PEDIGREE), Nania (VIEW PEDIGREE), and the families of Marinaresco (VIEW PEDIGREEand Contador (VIEW PEDIGREE)

“Some smart mares up for grabs here!”
