WONDER mare Winx produced a storming finish to record her 18th consecutive victory with a dramatic win in the Warwick Stakes (WFA) over 1400m at Royal Randwick.

The mare, making her first appearance since winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April, was made to work for her latest triumph after missing the start by four lengths.

Winx, ridden by Hugh Bowman, was about eight lengths adrift of the leader when the field entered the straight but found the sprint when required to pip stablemate Foxplay at the line to win the Group Two race.

“Her win was pretty impressive,’’ Bowman said. “It wasn’t a big margin but she won pretty easily.’’

Trainer Chris Waller said he was in awe of Winx’s amazing last-to-first effort.

“That was a pretty special win,’’ Waller said. “She has had a good gallop anyway. “We had to get her to top speed today!”
