RACE 1: 3 HASTA MANANA 6 BUSH TRACKER 7 ARUMUGAM 4 CRESTED EAGLE
Preview: HASTA MANANA (3) has put in two smart sprints but should enjoy this trip. He has drawn well and rates the one to beat. BUSH TRACKER (6) stays the trip and has not been far back in competitive maidens. He shouldn’t be far back here. ARUMUGAM (7) has drawn wide but showed up well on debut. He drifted badly in the betting that day but will start shorter here. CRESTED EAGLE (4) has been a touch disappointing but has shown some promise and can finish in the money. (Andrew Harrison: 3-6-7-4).
RACE 2: 7 TOP HONOURS 5 NEVERENDING LOVE 4 JAPANESE POETRY
Preview: Open Maiden. TOP HONOURS (7) has improved with each start and looks ready now. NEVERENDING LOVE (5) is never far back. She had a tough draw last run and can do better here. These two look the pick of the raced horses. JAPANESE POETRY (4) and ALITTLEBITNAUGHTY (2) both have smart pedigrees and any marker support must be respected. (Andrew Harrison: 7-5-4-2).
RACE 3: 4 QUENANZA 5 CAPRIANA 3 OWLETTE 1 MILLSY’S GIRL
Preview: QUENANZA (4) showed good improvement with first time blinkers. She should much prefer this long trip. She makes her poly debut. CAPRIANA (5) is seldom far off the pace and also tries the poly for the first time. The cheek-pieces go on which could see her into the money. OWLETTE (3) showed the benefit of her first run with an improved second start. The trip and a good draw can see her close. MILLSY’S GIRL (1) was much improved last run and can run into the money. (Andrew Harrison: 4-5-3-1).
RACE 4: 3 RED RISING 4 AIRBUZZ 10 INTOMBI 5 NAMAQUA DOVE
Preview: RED RISING (3) made a smart debut on the poly and should come on lengths from that showing. AIRBUZZ (4) is taking time to win but has improved with each recent start and with Fourie back in the irons she should make a bold bid. INTOMBI (10) is lightly raced and has a tough draw but her best recent efforts have been on this surface and she can still improve. NAMAQUA DOVE (5) makes her poly debut but showed good improvement at her second start. She gets 4kg relief from the saddle from a good draw. (Andrew Harrison: 3-4-10-5)
7 IT MUST BE LOVE 10 RETAIL THERAPY 8 BEAT IT 3 MISS GENEROSITY
Preview: Wide Open.
IT MUST BE LOVE (7) (SCR) has shown up well in two starts since shedding her maiden. She comes in with a handy weight and a claiming apprentice. RETAIL THERAPY (10) made a smart comeback after a short break. She goes very well this course and distance and can go one better. BEAT IT (8) was in that same race and was running at them late as was MISS GENEROSITY (3) who must also have a chance FRENCH FLING (2) returns from a lengthy break but is not up from the Cape to sample the KZN air. Watch the betting here. (Andrew Harrison: 7-10-8-3-2).
RACE 6: 6 MASTER OF THE NORTH 4 DEORSA 7 COMMAND COUNCIL 8 MISS EMBLEM
Preview: MASTER OF THE NORTH (6) obviously impressed the handicappers as he got a massive increase in the rating after finishing second over course and distance last time out. He will need a repeat. DEORSA (4) has been knocking at the door for some time now but goes this trip for the first time and could finally crack it. COMMAND COUNCIL (7) stays the trip and Fourie has stuck by him in this weak field. MISS EMBLEM (8) takes on males. She did well over a sprint last run but had been trying further before that. The sprint ‘blow-out’ could bring her on. (Andrew Harrison: 6-4-7-8).
RACE 7: 2 LIONS HEAD 5 GENTLEMAN’S WAGER 6 MAGICAL MIDANDS
9 AFRICAN SUNRISE
Preview: Tricky. LIONS HEAD (2) has always had a big reputation but had been disappointing before winning well last time out. He may now have found his feet. GENTLEMAN’S WAGER (5) was just over three lengths back to Lions Head when last they met. He is now 3 kg better off and with apprentice Jabu Jacobs taking a further 1,5 kg off his back he must have a big chance of turning the tables. MAGICAL MIDLANDS (6) was just over two lengths back to Lion’s Head and is 1kg better off here so must also have a chance of turning the tables. AFRICAN SUNRISE (9) has been an under achiever given that he is seldom far back but never quite getting there. He may now be looking for this trip. (Andrew Harrison: 2-5-6-9).
RACE 8: 12 LOVING THE VICTORY 2 GOLDEN TRIP 3 BRASS LASSI
Preview: LOVING THE VICTORY (12) has the widest draw but has gone close at her last two over course and distance. She could be the one to beat. GOLDEN TRIP (2) did not show first up for her new stable but has shown some promise in the Cape. First run on the poly and one to watch in the betting. BRASS LASSI (3) raced green in a promising debut and should come on from that effort. MEZZYOONA (8) has shown her best form on the poly and this trip should suit. (Andrew Harrison: 12-2-3-8).
