GODOLPHIN have released their ace Australian rider James McDonald from his contract with immediate effect after Racing NSW found him guilty of infringing the rules of racing.
On Thursday, McDonald was found guilty of accepting a $4,000 reward from a prominent Australian punter after he advised bets on his own mount, a horse called Astern, in 2015. He was banned for 18 months.
Godolphin, who have fired a number of their trainers for using banned substances over the years, said in a statement that they agreed with a policy of zero tolerance on jockeys having a bet.
“We will continue to support James during his suspension and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed will review his long-term future in due course,” concluded the Godolphin statement.
