A second representative of European sire sensation Frankel has set foot on South African soil, following Miss Frankel, who is already in training with Dennis Drier.

Named Mazaaher, this now two-year-old was one of 15 lots bought by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai for Mike de Kock at the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney in April. She has arrived in Johahnnesburg and will spend four weeks in quarantine.

Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Stud’s agent Angus Gold had to go to $610,000 for Mazaaher, a chestnut filly out of South African Gr1 winner Chocolicious from Three Bridges Thoroughbreds – the mare herself was originally bred by Backworth Stud.

Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock directed the mating of Chocolicious in England, and the filly was subsequently born and raised in Victoria and sold in Sydney.

“Mazaaher is not too big, but nice and well put together. We’re looking forward to working with her,” said De Kock on Friday.
