POPULAR equine physiotherapist Tanya Gee, the owner of TG Equine Sports Therapy in Walkerville, is in a critical condition after being kicked on the back of her head while working on a horse in one of the stable yards at Turffontein on Monday.
Gee, who treats horses with trauma and accident injuries, certain conditions where there could be neurological or respiratory problems or even developmental issues, was rushed to hospital where emergency surgery was performed.
Better news is that Gee was taken off the ventilator after her surgeon came to check on her this morning, and that she’s breathing on her own. She is also said to have had response in her arms and legs, which the doctor says is a positive sign.
Gee started at the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA), where she discovered her love for horses. She enjoyed Equine Studies so much that she left to become an assistant trainer, and later quit her job to study, completing her degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy in the UK and finishing various other courses.
“Tanya is a talented and well-liked therapist, she helped me with horses like Trip Tease and Doing It For Dan and is very good at her job. She has done work for many top trainers around the country,” commented Ashburton trainer Louis Goosen.
Our thoughts and well wishes go to Tanya’s family and friends.
